Consistently inconsistent. Been going here since they opened this location, I don't know, 20 years ago? They were the cooler alternative to Sam Ash back then because it was younger musicians working there, they had much more to choose from, and the prices were a little better. That changed though, and over the years they've definitely become pretty much exactly like Sam Ash, and I'd even argue that for certain things, Sam Ash is preferable. I've had good experiences there, I've had not good experiences there. Never extraordinary enough for 5 stars, never horrendous enough for just 1. I think my experience today exemplifies this.
I went in specifically for a pair of drum sticks for my son. A pair that his band teacher recommended. They had them in a pack if four, but not just a pair. Ok, no big deal, I know they'll be used. So I took them and walked around the store to see if I could find any gift ideas. In pro audio I found a Warm Audio WA87, I've been looking at getting a WA67 for a while now. It was used, and priced low enough that I was going to buy it, just wanted to find out more. I waited a bit, someone came in and went behind the counter, so I was like, "hey, what's the deal with this WA87? It's pretty cheap." He goes, "I have no idea..." and I just looked at him confused and said, "oh." After a few seconds, he started walking away and says, "I work in guitars, I was just dropping something off." And that was it. He didn't grab anyone to help me, he didn't offer any help or solutions to get help. I spend a good deal of money on musical equipment, and I was about to here today, but after that I put the sticks away and left. They had what I wanted, but not the people willing to help me get it. This visit was more of a two star, but overall they're a 3.
I'll be taking a break from guitar center for a while. I'll get the sticks at Sam Ash, and I'll keep using Sweetwater and Reverb for pretty much everything else. Don't have high expectations going here, and never use them as your only option. You will be...
Read moreMy dad is a devout guitar center fan so he referred me to GC. My experience has been terrible. I know it’s not completely GC’s fault.
I applied for a guitar center gear card a month and half ago. I have good credit and have never been declined for a credit card. I already have an Amazon store card with synchrony. I even passed their prequalifications. I haven’t heard one single thing back from either synchrony or GC.
I have called around 6-8 numbers for synchrony bank to check the status of my application. I figured maybe it’s delayed because of some missing info or something. Each time I call, the person gives me another number to call and then the automated system asks me for my account number. I don’t have one. I want to get one but I can’t. I even tried my Amazon synchrony account number and social. No luck. I just wanted to check the status of my application to see when I can get the card so I can buy the guitar I want.
I never even received a decline email or anything. I called GC a couple times too and they just send me back to synchrony and then synchrony sends me to the automated system which requires an account number and there’s no way to get a real person on the phone. I logged into the Amazon synchrony bank website and tried the chat option as well and they said they can’t check application statuses and then they give me the number to the automated system!
I try reading synchrony’s FAQs and their contact us page and you have to be logged into your account to contact them :) but I don’t have one yet.
I guess at this point I’m assuming I was declined?? Very confusing with good credit. I will be taking my business elsewhere. A shame because I have been ready to buy a guitar for two months. This is too...
Read moreMy brother driving from MD to my house in N Wales. He needed a gig bag for his bass, and I wanted the Bose S1 Pro so I ordered them for pick-up as he drives right past the Plymouth Mtg location. After an hour and a half, I never received a "your pick-up is ready" email, so he stopped there anyway to see what the problem was. Turns out they showed 4 Bose S1s in stock but couldn't find any in the store. After 20 minutes of my brother and the salesman searching, my brother got fed up and left. The salesman called me and said there is a mistake, they don't have any S1s, so he was diverting my order to the Oxford Valley store and I should receive an email within the hour to go pick them up there. 2 hours passed and I never got an email. I called the Oxford Valley store and they knew nothing about my order and told me to call the Plymouth Meeting store. I called back the Plymouth Mtg store and the manager started giving me attitude and told me that's not how the system works and I would have to pick them up in Plymouth Mtg when the items get shipped there at a later date. I told him the purpose of ordering for pick-up was to get the items today... He told me he was canceling my order and I would have to go to Oxford Valley and buy them myself. This whole ordeal took over 5 hours to get settled, and I still don't have the items I originally wanted. I'm very disappointed at the lack of communication, and the fact that I had to do all the work to find out what was going on. I never received an apology and felt as though the manager at Plymouth Meeting treated me very unprofessionally and rudely. I am still debating whether or not to drive to Oxford Valley or purchase my items...
