28 June 2018 Due to budget constraints from the recovery effort of Maria there are currently only 2 official tour guides in the town of Poncé to cover their four museums. This means that 2-3 of them are closed most of the days to save on operating costs. If you want to visit any of the museums in Poncé it would be wise to call ahead and setup a time and day so you can be sure that their is a guide available to let you in, show you around and give you a good tour. Also, there isn’t any A/c so be sure to wear cool clothing and bring a rag or fan to help you stay cool in the summer months. The Music Museum in Poncé is terrific and, if you are fortunate enough to land Mr. Rodriguez as your guide, you will be truly edifies by the boys of knowledge he will share with you. Be certain to stay to the end of the tour where you will get to see (IMO) the finest collection of PR Quatros assembled in one room by the foremost artist and PR craftsman Carmelo Martéll. If you can, ask to see the courtyard. It is amazing and they would like to start utilizing it fore music events and play productions. -Don’t walk through the ground brush though, it has tons of sticky burs. However, you may find a mango or passion fruit if yer lucky. We considered this the...
Read moreThis museum was on the top of my list when traveling to Puerto Rico. Upon our arrival at the museum , on 6/15/17, the museum gates were locked. I called the number listed for the museum and the call was answered by a lady who told me I needed to meet her in front of the church in the plaza. She told me once I met her there I can wait for the tour guide who could take me to other museums. This was completely unreasonable since I just wanted to go to the museum of Puertorican music, and found this very odd since museums usually allow people to go in and view exhibits at their own leisure. I declined her offer since it was so strange. I also told her none of this was indicated in the museum's website, to which she responded: it's not on the website because they're recent changes. I hope management views this review and tries to offer better experiences for visitors, and for those planning a visit to call in first and not waste time traveling to visit this museum (like I did), just to be given...
Read moreThis small museum dedicated to the various traditions of Puerto Rican Music is housed in mansion a few blocks from the Parque de Bomberos. The collection consists mostly of art, musical instruments and masks. During our visit, we were the only guests. Our guide was able to give us a private tour of the collection. More importantly, he gave us a passionate and well-informed lesson on the history of island's musical traditions, supplemented by examples he showed us on his phone. We were enraptured for over an hour - including our 12 and 9 year olds! Also, what a...
