I came in to Hairvana Salon on March 14th for a color and cut appointment with Amanda. I was very dissatisfied with the service I received. In my opinion, the results of my hair look nothing like the picture I showed her for inspiration. The colors on my hair compared to the picture are way too bright and look more pink/magenta than the lavender/violet colors in the picture I showed. In addition, there are patches in my hair that did not hold the dye and you can evidently see where. I even pointed out one of these yellow, bleached out strands of hair to Amanda and she tried to convince me that that was not yellow, but a light pink. I am not convinced that what looks like bleached hair is meant to be the โpink strands in the inspiration photoโ. Secondly, I discussed during our consultation that I was there to get my hair dyed in vivid fashion colors and that this look was going to be for a wedding. I felt cheated by the products used in my hair since the day after my hair was dyed, without being washed, it already looked faded. Needing a second opinion and feeling the need to fix my hair for the wedding which I was flying out for in less than a week, I met with another hair stylist on the 15th who works with Pulp Riot colors, and even she thought my hair was dyed a week prior to when I showed her my hair, not from the day before. I was also incredibly disheartened with the texture of my hair as a result of Amandaโs work. It was chalky and unpleasant to touch, unlike other stylists who have dyed my hair and left it feeling silky, soft and smooth. My confidence in Amandaโs skills also plummeted when she did not know how to style my bangs after washing my hair from being dyed. I had to explain to her step by step how to style them, and even then I did not like how my bangs were looking, so I told her to stop. Something that really stuck out to me during my appointment, that I found quite shocking, was that Amanda dropped her brushes and combs on the floor several times and then proceeded to use those same brushes on my hair again. I found that to be very filthy not only because other clientsโ hair clippings drop on the floor and the stylists walk around that floor, but the ownerโs dog walks around the shop. So who knows what all went back into my hair after touching the floor. When I asked Amanda for a partial refund, she refused completely. She was only willing to fix my hair and nothing more. I told her I did not want her to fix my hair and I just wanted a partial refund, but she would not budge. I paid $456 for this service and I do not feel I received the service I paid for. I should have at least gotten a partial refund for not being satisfied. BEWARE OF HAIRVANA...
ย ย ย Read moreHave you ever seen hair salon scenes in movies and TV shows where the customer and the hair stylist are gabbing and carrying on like close friends? My wife and I live that scene every time Tracy cuts our hair. Not both at the same time, of course. We do have our separate/back-to-back appointments. But thatโs also a cool thing about Tracy: during our block of time we both get to enjoy gabbing with her but for each of us itโs a slightly different experience.
But first, a bit of backtrack. In the ensuing four years since my review, Tracyโs gotten to know our heads of hair very well. I think with me, her question, โSo what are we doing with your hair today? The same thing?" is ceremonial. She knows my hair so well that I, as near-sighted as I am, donโt have to don my eyeglasses to check out the cut until after sheโs done. Itโs always perfect. The true test of her perfection is the following morning after Iโve washed and blown dry my hair. The style and shape are perfectโexactly the way I like it. Every single cut. Which amazes me because Tracy and I get into some farflung conversations about food & cooking, movies, TV, books, and some politics. While moving through all these different subjects she maintains complete focus on the haircut.
I hear her talking to my wife about similar subjects while giving her the same, beautiful cut each time. OK, sheโs a bit more experimental with my wife, trying a slightly different style or length, using a product, giving my wife tips on how to use that product and other tricks for getting her hair to maintain its same look and shape every morning. I of course need no such coaching, not with my shorter hair. And besides, with the way Tracy cuts my man hair, I could let it air dry, look in the mirror and smile, โPerfect.โ
Weโve learned much about Tracy as sheโs learned about us these past four years. Sheโs a warm and truly good person and man! Does she know a lot about all kinds of stuff as well as being highly skilled in other professional areas. Itโs always a joy to visit with her. We make a point of scheduling our back to back appointments weeks in advance because she only works Saturdays. Itโs kind of like going to a Saturday movie matinee every few weeksโbut the three of us are...
ย ย ย Read moreI wish I could say I had a better experience at this salon. I walked in wanting to get my hair fixed and to just feel good about myself. I walked out even more embarrassed about my hair.
The stylist was rude about my hair. She kept making comments about how it was so damaged and and made faces when I told her I don't go in much for haircuts/ treatments. (I work minimum wage I canโt afford high end shampoos and conditioners.) She said she wouldnโt feel comfortable doing any kind of process on hair due to it having โchapstick texture from store bought shampoos/conditionerโ..
I didn't even end up getting my hair processed cause I mis-booked for just a color and cut. (I was going for a light pastel pink color.) ended up just getting a hair cut. I wasnโt upset about my appointment being mis-booked as I was about everything else fallowing.
My stylist (Holly) she didn't offer to do any different colors or anything like that for my hair. Offered no solution on how to help my hair be healthier. Offered no alternatives. Only when I asked questions directly about my hair. Even then the answers werenโt meaningful. She made feel like my hair was so deplorable she didnโt even want to touch it. Kept saying โyou can have another here stylist do X treatment for you.โ -instead of her.
I asked her if she'd be willing to do something like a money piece or dye my hair another color with her time range. Something, - and she was like "no some other stylist can do that for you". Or โno I donโt feel comfortable with that but someone else can do that and explain the process.โ
Oh- and the color half of my appointment was given away to a last minute walk in.
I almost walked out of that appointment in tears from how unwelcomed and ugly I felt from the state of my hair. (My hair was all virgin after my haircut!) All I wanted to feel good about my hair and walk out feeling gorgeous and pretty. My stylist didnโt even compliment my hair.
Iโm leaving this review so others know the kind of treatment some people receive. Especially if you are not a regular attendee. If youโre looking to do something nice for yourself and get your hair done- try another stylist! Preferably one who wonโt make you feel ashamed...
