I’m not one to write negative reviews and tend to message or call an establishment if an error or something is not good. But in this instance I feel people should know because based off reviews i was expecting a different experience. Ordered the pork kebab plate and chicken and veggie plate. They forgot the chicken entirely. Called when got home from picking up only to first be told chicken doesn’t come with the chicken and veggie plate. Lol. Then after asking the kitchen they said it was forgotten. I was told I could come back in and they would refund the chicken plate. Told them I would instead come in tomorrow. They then CALLED ME BACK ten minutes later to tell me they would only refund me $2.50 for the chicken as we didnt return the veggies and ate that part. Unreal. I then asked $2.50 only refunded for the chicken and were they implying that the frozen veggies they served were $14.50 seeing the plate was $17.00. In which they replied yes. And yes the veggies were frozen garbage. My pork kebab was cold served over a tray of cold fries that were also low quality freezer quality grocery store fries. Generic sour cream and some weird ketchup sauce they claimed was ajvar came on the side. Worst takeout experience I have had in this city. Terrible customer service and acknowledgement of mistake made and complete lack of respect in making it right. Do not go here. Go to the many small business restaurants here who use good ingredients and treat...
Read moreDon't miss Rakia Brothers if you find yourself in Portland. Locals, I beg of you, please keep this place thriving.
I've been dreaming of getting my hands on some Balkan food ever since my 2015 visit to Croatia. Čevapi in particular has been a craving so I was psyched to find Rakia Brothers on the map during a recent PDX vacation.
Our server and cook were Bosian Serbs and their barbecuing pedigree showed it. We got the mixed grill plate and everything was cooked to perfection. The čevapi (hand-patted lamb and beef sausages...for the uninitiated) were so good they made my girlfriend stop and just close her eyes in delight while she savored them. The veal sausage was rich and delicious and the chicken was topped with a green herb mix that provided fresh contrast to the strength of so much meat. The chopped salad and bread were both spot in, and dont worry...fries are a standard side with this type of grilling over in the Balkans as well. We ordered an authentic Serbian pear rakia (hard liquor) to finish off the whole spread.
Not to be overlooked is the ambiance of this little place. Its decorated in a traditional style with Balkan costumes and decorations on the wall and felt like the cozy neighborhood restaurants I was taken to by my friends in Zagreb. Serbian music was playing and two gentlemen seated behind us were chatting in Serbo-Croatian the whole time. I felt transported in the...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I came by around 2 o’clock on a Saturday and we had the special. It was a burger burger with red peppers and some “spices” and also the chicken plate and honestly, both of the plates were very bland and under seasoned. When I come to a Mediterranean Middle Eastern type of restaurant I expect to be exploding with flavors. the server was cool nice young guy. The food was just not what I expected from a place that gets 4.7stars on google. And another thing that was kind of disheartening was a guy came in and wanted to use the bathroom. Yes he wasn’t paying customer but he just wanted to use the bathroom and he got kicked out and just kind of made me feel like damn he’s a person man he didn’t look like a drug addict. He was just a...
