It’s a Powell’s Books… what bad could I possibly say? That it’s too easy to spend far too much money here? Too easy to get lost in the aisles of books and spend too much time here? Too easy to find new books to read, new authors to love? It’s the smallest Powell’s Books I’ve been to (between the Burnside and Cedar Hills locations), but still just as worth visiting as the other two are. The attached coffee shop, Fresh Pot, is a huge plus. They had lavender tea and a vegan Marionberry Danish that I enjoyed (with other vegan pastries to offer such as a chocolate chip cookie and a coffee cupcake) while I spent a few hours there reading the books I’d just purchased, and both were lovely. The only thing as good a vibe as combining a coffee shop with a bookstore is a store cat (The Salem’s Book Bin ginger kitty, Rose, *wink*)!

My favourite place in Portland! In this bookstore, I found many books that I couldn't read online/borrow in the library. All the books here are beautiful, along with other items you can buy, like snacks, diaries, jewlery, bookmarks, puzzles, moon cake molds, bags....you can find the most exquisite things here. The books aren't too expensive, ranging from $5-$40? Most books I bought were around $10-$20, which is a great deal, considering a hat on Hawthorne street can cost $100 or so. Overall, the books are a great price, but other things are a little pricey (but they are gorgeous, and it is on Hawthorne street!!). Even if you don't need or want books, go check this place out, it's full of pleasure! And just walking in this place will make you feel warm hearted.

What a cool funky neighborhood and how nice to have another Powell's so I didn't have to find parking downtown! Smaller selection than the main branch of course but that suited me just fine. I was on the look-put for something by a local Portland author; vaguely I wanted something that had to do with sewing or other creative crafty stuff...but not a how-to book. Didn't think I'd find something fitting these picky requirements but there it was! Lisa Congdon! Of course! Anyway there's also a nice little cafe on the side, helpful staff members, and a nice selection of merch.

First time at this particular location. It's well organized and much larger than it appears from out front. Great selection of gifts and a wide variety of books. Good vibes. Can't speak much on customer service as no one spoke to me, aside from the cashier, who was nice. I bought a new book that had been on my to-read list. It was about $5 more expensive than with some of the online retailers, but I prefer to support a local bookstore such as Powells. There's a coffee shop attached... mighty convenient. Will definitely be back.
