If you want to rent movies, they have a very large selection. Their selection of horror movies is clearly their selling point, it's huge and full of obscure horror titles and subgenres.
Unfortunately, I'm not interested in horror movies, I don't live anywhere near their place so renting from/returning a movie to them is incredibly impractical.
My boyfriend and I had driven out here because we were within a 10 minute drive at the time, and were on the hunt to buy a very well-known movie from the 90s that we were really in the mood to watch that night and couldn't find anywhere. On teh interwebz, it said they had movies for sale. So we felt adventurous and drove over.
Do not drive over if you're just looking to buy a DVD. Their for-sale section is very very small and random.
As an aside, if your google maps/GPS tries to take you on any weird side streets in this neighborhood, ignore it and stick to main streets! We were routed down side streets, it was nearing 4pm so not surprising. But I was honestly scared, these streets (due to people parked on both sides) barely had room for one car to traverse, god forbid a car is coming from another way. I've been down similar roads, where drivers have to kind of give and take to be able to get down the street. But this was real bad, and mildly alarming. But I digress.
When we got to this business, fortunately they had a small off street parking area, with a handful of incredibly narrow parking spaces reserved for their customers. Because there was NO street parking to be found within a several-block area.
This place has that seedy, SE Portland, "keep Portland weird" vibe, that you may or may not enjoy. There's cool "vintage" and then there's just old and run-down. This is more the latter. I can't say it was not CLEAN, per se. Just dingey and old.
As far as the 'museum', it was mildly interesting. It's features a random assortment of costumes from various movies. Nothing too impressive or awe-inspiring, many of the movies I've never heard of. There's also a few props, and a lot of masks and prosthetic heads and just large-scale costume-looking heads? Not sure if those are considered part of the museum or just decor.
My boyfriend possibly could have considered renting some movies, he happens to be a somewhat enthusiastic horror movie fan, but he currently lives in Beaverton, I live even further away. So, just not worth it for that. But I wish them well as a quirky, old little business trying to survive in the world of online movie rentals, sales, and streaming. But I can't imagine I would...

Read moreI'm a fairly experienced video store customer. I started my journey in stores filled with Video Home System cassettes and customers with mullets and denim (yes...including the women it was the fashionable Midwest after all).
Through my years on this spinning globe I've been to other independent stores of good quality.
I can safely say MM is very likely the best movie rental store in the United States and it sits right here in this fine Rose City. It offers things you can't even get digitally streamed.
Even if you could get it streamed you miss out on the sweet sweet goodness of the extras on say Criterion collection versions. I recently rented Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance, watched all the extra content providing more info, and I'm changed forever.
Also, if you streamed it you'd like pay the same price or more to the Evil Empire that is Amazon.
Just check MM out (for pickup or in store browse) and the easy to use drop boxes around town. It's a great store and my visits for rentals during the Plague year(s ?) likely saved parts of my sanity.
Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with MM. I just...
