We decided to order takeout on Cubo's website, for lunch this past weekend. Their takout site is intuitive and easy. Unfortunately it doesn't relfect what they have on hand and the beef pies we ordered were unavailable and I didn't hear my phone over the traffic when they tried to call and let me know. Once there, I requested soy for a replacement as ham and the cream cheese ones we had already ordered were the only other choices and I like pork, as in the bowl we ordered, but not so much salty, slab ham. We took our meal home to share between the three of us: a side of plantains, the pork bowl with only green plantains since we had a full side, one triple order cream cheese pies and one triple order soy pies. The bowl, which came with beans, rice, four thin slices avacado and the green plantains was good...if a bit bland. We all agreed the green plantains were not to our taste and the texture was a bit tough. The side order of plantains were dissapointing as they were thick chunks. The last time we ordered plantains...from a food cart on sandy...they were flattened and we liked them a lot better flattened. Then we got to the pies. I was not thrilled to find the ones I'd ordered soy on were delivered with the ham...and as I worried it might be...it was so very salty not one of us could take more than two bites before they were tossed. The cream cheese ones have a unique, interesting filling but the pie is such a strong and competing taste, it doesn't work together well. I am happy most of their menu is gluten free but I won't be back between how bland and dissapointing the food was. They do have covered, patio seating right now...so there's that. I wish them all the best, as they are a mom and pop place and I want to see those succeed, even if the food is not...

As someone new to Cuban cuisine, the staff warmly guided me through the menu, helping me choose dishes that would suit my taste. Their accommodating and knowledgeable approach made my first Cuban food adventure truly enjoyable. The ambiance at Cubo is a perfect blend of contemporary and authentic. Then interior adorned with old Cuban furniture and wood, takes you on a nostalgic journey while maintaining a modern touch. it's like stepping into a classic Cuban eatery thats frozen in time.
Oh! And I cannot forget about the Mojo Pork! An absolute standout. The slow roasted pork generously coated with house made mojo and complemented by caramelized onions, was a flavor explosion. Paired with perfectly cooked brown rice and a side of sweet potato fries, every element of the dish worked harmoniously to create a memorable meal. Cubo in Portland is a true gem for Cuban food enthusiasts and anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. The service, ambiance, and delectable dishes like the Mojo Pork made it a must visit spot. I can't wait to return for another taste of Cuba right...
Read moreThere's no way to design this building better that I know of but I'm not an expert. Boy is the current setup an inconvenience. Their system for managing customers is a train wreck. The food is very good though. Parking is stupid, just like everywhere else in Portland. The portions and pricing are about average. You walk in and immediately stand in line for what seems like an eternity to order, at which point you'll frequently find out the best things on the menu are sold out. The person who takes your order is the same person who rings you up, takes your money, and makes your drinks. Kind of nonsensical if you ask me. There's not a ton of seating either. Still, I've never seen it full, probably because it takes so long to go here. The saving grace of this place is that the food is lighting fast once ordered. It still takes forever to get in and get out though. You just wait while standing in a loud chaotic line dodging kitchen staff and other customers going to the restroom instead of sitting at your table eating appetizers and socializing with your date. Really think they could be restructured and become something great. They certainly know...
