04/30/19: 4.5 out 5 - Came here with my mother-in-law because she wanted to see what it is all about. This would make it m second visit in a matter of days. And, I don't live in the area!

To her surprise, she enjoyed the layout and was quite surprised on how great most of the prices were. It would be only obvious then that she would have to pick up some items. She also commented on how clean the store was for an Asian market. Keep in mind, we are Asians and we go to MANY kinds of Asian markets.

It was definitely a worthwhile visit for her. She'll most likely will want to come back and so will I.

If you get a chance or in just in the area, definitely check out H Mart. There's even a little eatery inside called "K-Town". Simple menu and very tasty.

04/27/19: 4.5 out 5 - Finally got a chance to check out H-Mart since its Grand Opening after it has taken the spot that was formerly Zupan Market.

Decided to come to H-Mart after my running group had gotten a bite somewhere nearby. Parked off the street, but found out later that there is a parking structure for H-Mart customers.

It's not a huge space but it definitely suffices for the demographic area. It was a bit crowded at first since it seems like the employees were still putting inventory out However, the place was still clean and, for the most part, organized.

The shelves were stocked with such an array of other ethnic foods along with H-Mart's regular inventory of Korean goods. Very pleased to see that.

The produce look great. Looked fresh and very clean. A variety of sorts, as well.

The meat and seafood department looked great, and the employees of that department were quite helpful.

Overall, H-Mart seemed to transition well into the neighborhood, and provides a great variety of items in a small space with decently low prices to go with.

I do hope for its success for the...

Horrible business ethics! They sell deli foods that are not fresh but old and dried! As a Korean, I could tell the reason why they do NOT have date the food was made but only 'sell by date' is because the foods are not fresh. Kimbob should not be sold after a few hours due to possible food poisoning, but theirs were very dried and as soon as I took a bite I knew it was not made on that day, just like I would let it sit for over a day after I bought one (Figure I bought it in the evening so that kimbob was more than 1 day old!) Spicy pork with rice was super dried as well, rice was also super hard, the cabbage on it was NOT fresh at all, and neither of them had the date they were made. The dumpling they sell are not really dumpling. They just steamed frozen buns with misleading label! And of course, only 'sell by date on it! Ttokboggi was super dried as well just like any other prepared foods! (Not talking about the side dishes which I did not check) The prices are overall also very marked up, like close to 10 dollars more than other Korean places for the same products! I was shocked. And this HMart is the only HMart store that doesn't offer membership like all other stores meaning 'super greedy and not giving back any to their customers! I travel a lot and lived in many different places and I can easily say this HMart was the far worst with their super low business ethics when it comes to the quality of the preand I would never go back and maybe that's why I did not see many Koreans like other stores but only, mostly non-Koreans who don't...

This is my favorite Asian market. I’ve been here several time. There’s not too crowded like the other places maybe because They just opened less than a year. This place is clean and also its restroom. Things are pretty organized in every section. The prices are not quite different from the other Asian markets. Moreover, they have a great deal like weekly specials. They have fresh seafood and meat departments. They also have nice staple selections such as rambutan and frozen durians, which are opened. That’s fantastic I’ve barely seen this elsewhere in Portland. Personally, I love salmon. They also have clean salmon in the package but not just salmon! They also have sashimi which is pretty cheap and convenient. There are many staff and they’re all wearing red vests. Plus their staff are extremely friendly. First time I was there, one of the cashiers offered me a rice cake which was so good. The parking lots seem pretty small and have tight spaces. Overall is great!! Nice staff, clean place, good atmosphere, and has everything. Bored? Go there and spend time finding something new!

What an amazing store! Portland is no stranger to Asian markets, but H Mart really has set the standard when it comes to making a non Western grocery store easy to navigate, and approachable. They may not be the most diverse when it comes to fruits and vegetables, but in almost every other category they carry, the options are some of the best in their category. There's also a nice selection of cookware that is really helpful when you need something affordable but functional. I like to grab a bowl of bulgogi and a single serve sake and enjoy a simple meal in their seating area, then go shopping. I love radish kimchi, and they had several for me to choose from. This store is quickly becoming one of my favorite food shopping destinations. I recommend going with at least 1-2 recipes worth of specialty ingredients on your list, and then grab a couple of extra items that peak your interest but may not have a clue how you would use them. I'll find recipes online for my latest experimental purchase, and it's never failed me.
