Heaven is for real.
You know how I know (Beside Jesus dying for all of us)? This chicken and waffle dish is EVIDENCE!
I've searched far and wide for chicken and waffles that tingles my taste buds. Kind of like hiking, or rock climbing is a hobby for some people, eating chicken 🍗 and waffles 🧇 is my hobby (and pastries).
I ordered chicken and waffles. What is it that you expect on your chicken and waffles? In my world it's normally deep fried chicken on a waffle, right? WRONG! As the saying goes, "keep Portland weird". I received the to go box and before I opened it my heart was poked by how small the gift box was this heavenly goodness was contained in.
I opened it up and to my utter shock and dismay I spotted those cursed mushrooms (who in their right mind eats fungus?!?!) plaguing my poor chicken and waffle. Spinach too?!? INCONCEIVABLE!
At that moment I heard, I started hearing the chatting of a faint voice in my head from my mother, even though I'm an adult living on my own. "Eat your veggies, eat your veggies, eat your veggies." Okay the voice in my head may be an exaggeration…
FOOD REVIEW: I'm not a mushroom guy, and the entire meal seemed quite odd, but I asked the lady if there were any syrups or sauces that went with the chicken and waffle and she gave me some sweet vinegar that pulled all of the flavors together marvelously well.
I was quite surprised how these ingredients complimented each other!
The waffle was a bit denser, and I normally like a lighter Belgian type, but for how hearty the other parts were it's worked well. The waffle could have been a bit more tender, but it was still a good waffle. Chicken: was freshly deep friend and was obviously the center piece that the other flavors were to complement, and they all did! Veggies: Ive had a slaw chicken and waffles at a restaurant in Spokane, WA. and was surprised how well it worked with the chicken and waffle, I was even more surprised how well these veggies worked with this chicken and waffle. If I would have known before hand that this meal came with mushrooms and sauteed spinach I woulda been like, "I'm out. Thanks though!" Ignorance is bliss as they say. The creamy cheese, seasoned chicken, sweet vinegar and sauteed veggies almost seemed like too many flavors, but they werent. I'm THOROUGHLY impressed with how well these folks know their flavors and used their God given creativity to create a meal that was an experience of a life time for me. Thank you Woodrow (the...
Read moreHonestly, my experience was comically bad. When I showed up, there were two people in front of me in line with no one else waiting. I ordered my food and my sister ordered right after me. Shortly after our order was put in, a bunch of people showed up. We waited around thirty minutes, but noticed a lot of the people who showed up after us had already gotten their food. Not trying to be pushy, we decided to keep waiting and not say anything. After 45 minutes, we politely asked the girl working the counter if our food was done. She said she didn’t see any tickets for our names at all, but that the food would be done shortly. Another 15 minutes goes by and my name is called for my order. When I got up there, I asked if my sisters was also done and she said there was no ticket but that it would be done soon. Another half hour goes by (at this point we have been waiting an hour and a half and have seen 20+ people come after us and leave before) so my sister goes to ask a third time. While she was asking the girl at the window, other customers said that they also had been waiting an hour for their food to no avail. My sister asked for a refund after being told her food STILL wasn’t done. At this point, the girl at the counter asked what she had and went to the back only to find that her order had been sitting there for an hour and that they had put the wrong name down for her order. My sisters food was cold (she had bacon and eggs with her meal) and when she opened her waffle, there were THREE hairs in it. I will never ever go back again and I would give zero...
Read moreOne of the breakfast places that I was excited to go in Portland was The Waffles Window. Their waffles looked amazing, I thought it is such a cute concept to get them over the window. To our surprise, when we got there, the window was closed. I was so sad, until we realized that they are actually in full operation in the inside.
So, the “window-serve takeaway joint” was inside the cafe, which worked out great for us. It was nice to have a table seating. Inside the cafe was very large, with lots of tables and chairs.
They offer sweet & savory Belgian-style waffles. I love Liege waffles, and excited to see how they do it with Portland Twist. Their menu was big, there is something for everyone.
We decided to order one sweet, and one savory kind. We got Seasonal Special item, Rose City made with Strawberries, Rose Cream, Rhubarb Sauce, and Whipped Cream. It was super beautiful, the tart rhubarb sauce went great with the sweet strawberries and whipped cream. The waffle was amazing and fluffy, super tasty!
For the savory kind, we went with Three B’s. It is made with Thick Cut Pepper Bacon, Brie Cheese, and Fresh Basil, service with House Recipe Peach Jam. It was delicious! The combination of pepper bacon and brie was amazing, and basil added that extra flavor to bring them all together. Delicious!
We had a really nice breakfast here. We loved the waffles we ordered, we enjoyed every bite. I wish if we could try...
