Most of the feedback here is related to one show that I attended this summer
a) Thompson's Point quietly announced a replacement warm-up band for one of their shows. I googled around to better understand, and there was not a lot to find. The reason ultimately provided was "Covid related". The warm-up band was supposed to play in Toronto the night before, and they missed that show as well. In order to travel to Canada, one must be vaccinated. My guess is that the band failed to meet the vaccination requirements, and the change in travel plans made it difficult/expensive to come to Portland (they did play the following night). The replacement band was no where near the quality of the band that was replaced. b) For the same show, the on-line advertisement on the day of the show listed the warm up band as a sponsor...very misleading c) I asked for a refund on the show, as the warm-up band was a big reason I was willing to shell out $50 for a show. TP stated that they will not refund, unless the headliner does not show up. d) I believe that over 90% of the beer sales are Sierra Nevada products...a California company. The price of beer is outrageous, especially for a mediocre beer company (just my opinion). They maintain one Maine beer tap...this tap was drained almost immediately the night of the show I attended (more $ to Sierra Nevada)...this is a ton of money that could be used to support the Maine community e) Line management - TP has a very difficult time managing the ebbs and flows of people entering the venue (it's not just the parking). They should understand when they replace warm-up bands with inferior acts, that people will wait until the headliner arrives.
I used to be a fan with the venue, but now believe that mistakes made with the initial setup (e.g., parking design) will never be addressed because it affects the bottom line (TP is owned by large companies outside of Maine). I also think that there is a lack of transparency about line-up changes, etc. Most importantly, I don't believe the parent company really cares about the Maine way of life or it's people (unless, of course, the bottom line is affected)
I am sure that TP does some positive things on a smaller basis to help the Maine community, but their bread-winner (concerts) is not...
Read moreBeautiful location on the water and great stage completely ruined by horrible parking and even worse event staff.
Despite having signs and the Thompson’s point website saying parking was $5.50 per day, as soon am I’m getting out of my car is parked in a public space right on the boardwalk some staff member and starts yelling and screaming at me saying it’s a “private lot” and if I’m attending the show I need to pay $40 cash and park in a different lot.
I arrived only 2 hours before gates open and they didn’t even have people directing anyone to the “proper” parking spaces. Upon leaving that night the “private lot” I was kicked out of earlier was completely full of out of cars, mostly with out of state plates, with nothing else on the road being open aside from the event venue itself.
Things got even worse once I made it to the gates. It was a co-headlining concert with both bands having VIP ticket sales. The people manning the gates had no idea what was. Going on to the point I needed to explain how my bands VIP even worked to the person at the check in booth.
This is my favorite band and I’d done VIP for them several times in the past, part of the package has always been getting access to the merch booth once you get let in so you can get things signed at the meet and greet. Although the booth was open and ready to go, when several of us started making our way to the merch booth right next to the gate a staff member started yelling at us and refused to let us get our items, going as far as to say “well if you don’t like it go file a complaint” so here we are.
So here I am. Aside from this review I also spoke to the bands VIP liaison about this. Really pretty place but disorganized and some of the rudest staff I’ve ever met. It would take something really important to ever make...
Read moreA couple of weekends back, my husband and I had a terrible time trying to attend the concert at the Thompson's Point venue. When we approached the site, two lanes of traffic narrowed to one, and then we were forced to turn around in inadequate space and relocate to a parking lot almost a mile away. This is because we didn't prepay for parking. [Both my husband and I have physical disabilities, so we were dropped off, and my son made the trek back from the distant lot.]
While we waited for our son to join us, we got in the long line with our 8"high beach chairs [as per the instructions on the website]. Before long, we were told by an attendant that the facility had run out of space for chairs, and that we would have to leave ours in a corral, and pick them up after the show. I immediately realized that we would have to leave, as we couldn't stand without a seat for an hour in line, and three to four hours during the show. It was disappointing to miss the concert, and then throwing $90.00 out the window for tickets.
Just so we didn't ruin anybody else's evening, we were able to hire an Uber for $40.00 to leave the insanity behind and return home. I will never attend any type of event at this venue again, and intend to tell anyone who will listen that it doesn't accommodate older ticket-holders with parking, seating, etc.
This is just another example of overbooking an event for ticket sales without keeping in mind the quality of the experience for all...
