Union Station Plaza Shopping Center — Local services in Portland

This review is not a reflection of the quality of services that are provided by the various businesses that are operating within the Union Station Plaza, this review is specifically, only, about this entry point to the Plaza parking lot.

Entering or Exiting the Union Station Plaza from Congress Street is a huge problem that needs to be addressed in order to make it more efficient and safer. The 2 best things that they can do to start this change are;

1. Make this entry point oneway and for ENTRY ONLY. If no people are pulling out of the Plaza parking lot and clogging traffic then most of the problems with this part of the parking lot would be eliminated.

2. Close off and completely remove access to the Union Station Plaza parking lot from Congress Street. Doing this will 100% eliminate all of the problems with this aspect of the Union Station Plazas parking lot as well as improve the flow of traffic in this area and greatly improve the safety of people driving this route. Due to the increase in traffic and the number of drivers, THERE IS NO PRACTICAL REASON for this ENTRANCE and EXIT point to be there anymore. All it does is cause a congestion point during the Morning and Evening commutes which is unnecessary considering how easy it is to eliminate this opening to the Union Station Plaza parking lot. Also, removing this will not adversely affect the businesses within the Plaza and it will create an area to add another dozen or so parking spaces. It's a win-win-win solution to the problem. A neighborhood strip mall with an eclectic variety of stores, including: Maine Hardware, Portland's largest hardware store Save-a-Lot, a large discount supermarket Buckdancer's Choice, Portland's oldest store selling musical instruments Coastal Trading, a large,diversified pawn shop A (so-called) Dollar Store A laundromat a pool hall A fast food sub sandwich shop A chicken restaurant Also in the immediate area are a Greyhound Bus station, Mexican, Asian, BBQ, and pizza restaurants, a smoke shop, Asian food stores, bars, an Italian Sandwich shop, misc. chain fast food...

I can't believe union station has its own rating on here. Between savealot, dollar tree, an extremely suspect dive bar, a pawn shop, rentacenter, I see no reason to step foot here except of course MAINE HARDWARE. Maine hardware is still the best hardware store in the state. It is local and filled with licensed tradesmen of all areas to assist you with any project.
