We absolutely love the shows we’ve seen at The Player’s Ring and try whenever we can to bring first-timers as we did this past weekend for the opening night of The Wasp. We received the PR postcard in the mail, and it looked interesting enough that I showed my S/O who agreed. We bought tickets online (if you do it on your phone, do it in landscape mode!). Parking was easy enough too.
The best part, as always, was this show. Easily the best we’ve seen. No spoilers from me, but the title doesn’t give it away at all, the ending was jaw-dropping, and the acting was incredible…just can’t say enough about the two actresses. Amazing amazing amazing!
TPR is well run, and these shows are remarkably well done from ticketing to getting out when it’s all over. I really like the room. It has the effect of bringing the audience into scenes, like we are all flies on the wall. We can’t wait to see what next...
Read more“Deathtrap” was a real thriller, from the very beginning to the final scene. I was thrown out of my seat, so to speak, in the first act. There were so many unexpected surprises in this very clever play about play writing. The acting was fabulous – actors keeping up a fast pace. Whenever you thought you understood what was taking place, a turn of events proved you wrong. I doubt that the play could have been any better on Broadway where it ran for a long time. The Players’ Ring is a wonderful community theater located at the edge of Prescott Park in Portsmouth. The place is small and cozy, the stage right in front of with seats on two sides. We have attended many memorable performances there and were never disappointed. We highly recommend you let yourself be enchanted by the magic of this theater and perhaps even consider becoming a member. Roy and Ute...

Two women lay in the hospital beds on the stage, separated by an ingenious sheer curtain, which lent a shadow puppet quality to things! And what followed was a whirlwind! alternately hilarious and poignant, with the curtain opening and closing, non-bedridden grieving adult children moving around the stage. The dialogue was fast-paced and smart and the four actors were spot on - deadpan, when needed (even the woman who was almost dead); sublimely comic, when called for - a brilliant performance with perfect timing throughout. As Karla declares in the middle of a comic spiel about raunchy sex, 'Timing is everything!' Amen to that. Kate Sullivan ...
