Set in the heart of downtown Portsmouth, this historical theatre will transport you back in time. I've been here many times over the last twenty years. This is the first time I've been since the Chestnut Street renovation. They really did a wonderful job with the exterior of the theatre and the surrounding street. In the past the entrance really just look like it was down an alleyway. But now with the new Archway on Chestnut and renovation of the street, it has a much more welcoming appearance. Sounds in the theatre is great. The interior of the theater is clean and very beautiful. The bathrooms, which had been recently renovated, are absolutely spectacular. I know that's a funny thing to say about a bathroom, but you really must see them. A plus is they have full bars, so you can order mixed drinks, wine and beer, and they smartly have plastic glasses with snap lids that can be consumed in the theatre during the performance. If you're looking for a nice night on the town with some entertainment definitely check out the...
Read moreI, have been here many times and I enjoy the venue history and look. so old fashion it is really beautiful. Recently my wife and I went to see Jane Lynch and Kate Flannery’s “The Trouble with Angels” I thought the show was good just not the comedy i was expecting, band was fantastic ! I was a little disappointed with the way some of the guest behaved, actually the 2 women sitting in front of us were very rude! I was talking quietly with my wife during the opening song because i was so impressed with the band when i guess i upset the 2 women in front of me when out of no where 1 of the women turned around and smacked the bag of popcorn i was holding.....I had no idea what happened and was completely shocked because i did not see it coming. Not sure why they did not just say something instead of being physically aggressive. It really ruined my night and i just wanted to leave. If it was not for my wife I probably would of said something and left. I honestly doubt i will...
Read moreMy wife and I had an excellent experience last night at a concert held at the Music Hall. The venue last night was two acts starring Randy Armstrong and Volker Nahrmann performing with their Beyond Borders ensemble with the opening act being the local group the Soggy Po Boys (one of our favorites). Both groups joined midway through the performance in a tribute to jazz legend Dizzie Gillespie. Sound quality was excellent, the staff were super friendly, drinks well done and reasonable. And yes the bathrooms are inspired and clean. My one complaint is the seats could do a bit of updating (a bit narrow). Think Fenway in the cheap (or no so cheap) seats. Still it was a magical night and worth all five stars. Go catch an act there if you can! Just wanted to add, we've been back twice for two great shows. One was Robert Cray the other Peter Wolf. Musically this place is terrific! Sound quality is excellent and doesn't appear to be a bad seat in the house....
