Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience - Do Not Recommend
⭐ (1/5 stars)
I had an extremely disappointing experience at The Bronze Look and would caution anyone against doing business here.
When I arrived, I explained upfront that I didn't know what I had – that it could be everything or nothing. The owner never asked what I wanted to do with the coins (sell, get appraised, etc.) and immediately began sorting through them in a dismissive manner. He rudely separated items into piles he called "spend money" and "play money," and even made mocking comments about whoever had collected them, particularly the penny collections.
Lack of Professionalism: He walked away with my coins and had another person help him go through them while they made jokes together Never explained his evaluation process or methodology Provided no information about individual coins or their actual values Appeared to pay a flat rate per category rather than evaluating each coin
After going through everything, he offered me $95 for a "substantial pile" of coins. When I asked questions, he repeatedly dismissed me with "you don't have anything" and "they didn't leave you anything to work with."
The Worst Part: When I said I'd rather keep the coins and give them as Christmas gifts, he told me I needed to pay him for his time. He demanded a full mason jar of wheat pennies (which he'd valued at only $7.15) as payment. When I asked about paying cash instead, he condescendingly said "you don't want to do that" – implying I couldn't afford his time. He never even opened the jar to see what was inside.
Bottom Line: He provided no actual service – no information about my coins, no education about their value, nothing. What exactly did I pay him for? The experience felt like extortion, and his cocky, dismissive attitude throughout made it clear he was trying to take advantage of someone who admitted they didn't know what they had.
A reputable coin dealer should educate customers, explain their findings, and treat people with respect regardless of whether a sale happens. This is literally their job. Instead, I left feeling swindled and disrespected.
I strongly recommend taking your coins anywhere else but The...
Read moreI brought a small coin collection that I inherited from my mother in to The Bronze Look the other day after some online research. My choices were basically Beckley or Princeton, and since I absolutely loathe Beckley, I was VERY happy to find this shop's website. Everything about it said "professional." After a brief but pleasant conversation with Ashley (sp?), I was pretty sure I was making the right choice. As I assume most people do in this situation, I had already tried looking up a few coins online and with some of my mom's books. It quickly became obvious that I had NO idea what I was doing and at some point, I was just going to have to take someone's word on what, if anything, these were worth and have faith in the integrity of the person I was talking to.
With that in mind, I headed over to Princeton to meet Randolph, the owner, and his daughter, Ashley. My first impression was that he seemed a little, I guess the best word would be "guarded." Not rude or unfriendly in any way, just that it was clear he was quietly assessing me and the situation in front of him. Which makes perfect sense considering how much money we were standing in the middle of! Plus, I'm a collector myself (my thing is movies) and we're not really known for being "social," so I get it.
I had some other errands to run, so after a short conversation and the obligatory filling out of the paperwork (Thank you, Ashley!), I left my mom's coins in their hands for an hour or so to evaluate. When I got back, they were just finishing up and let me hang out for a few in their VERY comfortable leather recliner (HIGHLY recommended!). I was impressed with the way father and daughter communicated across the room to each other, verifying and double-checking figures. They even found a fake that I, of course, let them keep (Would LOVE to spend a few minutes alone with whoever sold my mom that one... )
So, blah, blah, blah. Here's the part you're interested in: I was VERY pleased with the amount that was offered to me. Randolph could have quoted any figure in the world, but I felt VERY confident after talking with him and his daughter and spending time with them in their pleasant shop that I was being treated fairly. I'm certain...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I went to the Bronze Look in Princeton, W.Va. to sell our gold rings and we were pleasantly surprised with our experience there. The owner and operator Randolph made us feel comfortable with his assurances on the market prices and the ins and outs of the volatility of gold and silver fluctuations in price. We know we got a fair deal on our gold rings and silver. I have been there several times and each and every time, I have left there feeling good about the transaction that took place....can't say that about other shops in the area!! If you have a question about your valuables, Randolph will give the straight about it...no bull.... no car salesmen spin. I know where my girlfriend and I will go to get the best prices on our gold and silver....The...
