The father of comic horror has a peaceful resting place in an idyllic cemetery. He's buried on his mother's family's plot (Phillips) and has a standard marker. The ground is well worn by previous visitors, and many mementos are left on his marker. It was good to visit the author and pay our respects to his final resting place.

Devant la tombe d’H.P. Lovecraft, un frisson me parcourt l’échine, mélange de respect et d’effroi, comme si quelque chose d’indicible veillait encore sous la pierre. Les mots gravés “I am Providence” résonnent en moi, tandis qu’une brise froide semble murmurer un appel venu des profondeurs, une prière pour Cthulhu et les monstruosités tapies aux frontières de la raison. Et je ne peux m’empêcher de me demander si, quelque part dans les ténèbres : « N'est pas mort ce qui à jamais dort et dans les ères peut mourir même la Mort ». Respect Monsieur Lovecraft.

As others have said, if you love horror, this is a spot you need to visit. Yea, he was a bit of a bell when it came to his personal beliefs about the rest of humanity, but he was a great author. It's nothing flashy, and actually not all that easy to find, but add it to your list of things to do while in Providence. It's a great cemetery to get lost in for...
