The dog park itself is a wonderful place and extremely valuable, considering it provides Providence residents (many of whom live in apartments and do not have yards) the opportunity for off-leash play, as well as essential socialization. It is also very unique, as it begins with wooded trails, which lead to clearings. The park could be improved with additional trashcans and by clearing the small dog section (it is terribly overgrown and thus unusable), but overall, I am very happy with the park. However, I have seen some frightening encounters between dogs, which could easily have been avoided. Just today, when I arrived at the dog park, a dog was attacking another dog. I assumed the owner of the dog who initiated the attack was going to leave, and proceeded to bring my dog in. Instead, the owner allowed the dog to stay, and about 20 minutes later, I witnessed it viciously attack a sweet and timid puppy. Pack mentality led many of the other dogs to join in the attack. The owner of the dog was completely ineffective in grabbing her dog, and seemed to be afraid to do so. Other owners tried to step in and help, and were bitten by the lead dog while doing so. The owner of the puppy managed to pick her squealing dog up, only to have the lead dog continue to attack by jumping up and biting at the dog, and trying to pull it out of its owners arms. It was a horifying sight, and totally unnecessary. The owner of this dog should have left after the first incident, but instead, she chose to be ignorant and irresonsible, resulting in harm to another dog, not to mention that the puppy could very well grow up to be scared of other dogs. I know my own dog, who goes to that park every day, is now terified of the park and all other dogs. Other owners who witnessed the attack said the same dog has been involved in other fights in the past. Beware of this dog. It is a female yellow lab/pit mix, medium-sized, and belongs to a tall, dark-haired woman. This dog is dangerous and should not be...
Read moreGreat wooded dog park with a water hose at the entrance for your water bowls. Well maintained and sprayed for mosquitos once a year but it's still a bit buggy. Good fences and a separate area for the small dogs. Lots of trees and shade. The space is great. Usually the people and dogs are too but you have to watch out for some people who don't train their dog correctly or their dog has possessive behaviors and they do not correct. Only bring your dogs if you're going to watch them, not be on your phone or holding a social hour with friends. That's when problem happen because they are still animals at the end of the day and they need you to watch and guide them and protect...
Read moreThe best dog park in PVD! I love bringing my dog here because the owners here are responsible and take accountability for their dogs behavior if they ever get over stimulated/grumpy. The park has poop bags and a place to refill water jugs for the dogs to enjoy when it’s hot. They added a bunch more benches to sit and also add new toys every once in awhile which is so thoughtful. The area is completely fenced it and has tons of trees which provides shade for the humans in the summer. I’m so grateful to live so close by and have made so many new acquaintances. Even if I moved far away, I’d make a point to bring my dog here....
