Very calming atmosphere. Went one night with the family and there was nobody else there so it was nice to just look over the water and do some relaxation. Admittedly, there's nothing really interesting there to look at besides the distant buildings and slow-moving water, but that's good enough for someone who is just looking to relax for a bit. There are a few trash cans around and a good amount of benches for people to sit and relax. Also, I saw a bunny hopping around the park which was kind of cool because I didn't know there were bunnies in this area. I saw some more the next day as well outside of the park. Also, if you're here during the warmer months and are hanging around dusk or dawn, I recommend using mosquito repellant on your body because I did get a couple of bites because I was wearing shorts and short sleeve, but it was nothing serious and not the fault of the park. Wildlife is wildlife. And just something else to note, I heard an owl making its hoot noises, but didn't get a glimpse of it!

I really enjoy walking through this place during the day, at night, and even during waterfire events. Its soo beautiful and chill and the mall is right there and a few cool places like Cafe Nuvo, Capital Grill, Jacky’s, etc. If you follow the canal it leads you to the Providence bay and the pedestrian bridge, if you go under the tunnel KP and downtown Providence, and the street opposite facing the mall leads you to the train station/Amtrak/MBTA. The gondola can be so romantic and perfect for a date, but theres also a nice kayaking spot. And… its free just to hangout and have a picnic. A extra bonus is the fact the field where the 4th of July fireworks is right there and the state house is also very visible 🙂

Closest thing you'll find to nature in the middle of a ghetto like area of the city where people can be found sleeping on park benches, sitting with their trash bags of belongings and approaching you or making you feel uneasy. I had to change my course a couple times. Other than that, the city architecture over the small body of water is a pleasant sight, and the bridges add an eerie but cool feeling as you walk under them, feeling for a second that you're in some kind of abandoned establishment. Didn't run into any problems here, went a few times because we couldn't stray far from our stay due to unpredictable rain. It was a nice but short walk.

Nice area to walk around in downtown Providence. Best known for WaterFire, which is a really cool experience, I actually prefer being here at other times without the huge crowd. However, this is the best spot to sit and enjoy WaterFire in my opinion. No matter where you’re standing, the backdrop of your photos will be impressive. My biggest complaint is that the current pushes all of the trash in the river into the southwest corner of the basin and it doesn’t seem like they remove it very often, but they are on top of it before WaterFire and other big events downtown.

It was the Veterans Day Waterfire. I took part in the Torchbearer Ceremony/procession. It's a very well planned event. This is the 4th time I've been and the 3rd time I've been a Torchbearer. Whether it's the opening ceremony at the Statehouse with the speeches or swearing in of new recruits; The procession down to Waterplace Park; The music and lighting of the fires; Or the many different displays honoring Veterans it's ALL awesome!!!! Thank you Waterfire for thanking me for my service in this way. You do a great job.

If you come to RI, this is a must visit. Also, you have to time it with the water fire festival. This is a beautiful basin where they light fires to start the water festival. The fires then go down the river. It’s not just for viewing, there are also vendors. You can eat different foods, but different goods, and drink different drinks. You can eve take the drinks all along the boardwalk. It’s good family fun combined with a little bit of adult fun. Enjoy!
