As a bus driver unfamiliar with that area, someone directing traffic tossed a page of directions in my window telling me I had to move immediately. He had said that he was telling me to move when he was maybe 60 ft in front of me flashing a flashlight which meant nothing to me except for a flashing flashlight. I couldn't see him or a light in a circular motion telling me to move on, which I wouldn't have done anyway because I didn't know where I was going. Imagine this: first time on those particular Providence city streets at night, reading a page of directions while driving a full-size school bus. The first problem is obvious- one doesn't drive while reading, especially at night, never mind unfamiliar streets with a full-size school bus. Whoever thought of the solution to have a full page of directions (or maybe even half page which is more accurate) should have thought to provide an actual address to put into a GPS - which I had and which would have been doable. The second problem is the manners of the traffic director. He had no ability to solve my problem and no manners whatsoever. What he should have done was what I figured out 10 minutes later after blocking traffic for that long - ask a driver behind me who is heading in the same direction and knows the streets to go in front of me. During that 10 minutes the traffic director came back to my window several times, angrily insisting that I move. I had to call the police for an escort which they were unwilling to do before I thought of this. The person directing traffic should be reprimanded or let go for his ill manners and inability to solve...
Read moreAmica Mutual Pavilion is a great stadium for sports. With a capacity of over 11,000 people for hockey, over 12,000 for basketball, and over 14,000 for concerts this is a great all purpose arena. Sightlines to the rink are excellent. The seats are comfortable and spacing is adequate. You're never too far away from the action here! There is a nice lobby entrance to the stadium from the street level. The concourse around the arena is fairly wide and easy to move around in. Don't miss the Rhode Island Reds mini museum near the back of the arena. When in your seat take a second to admire all the great basketball players whose numbers are retired for the Providence Friars. The great John Thompson and Lenny Wilkens played for the team. Concessions in the stadium were good and moderately pricey. They have a wide selection of local and national beers. Local favorite Sal's Pizza can be found here. The rest of the concessions here are standard stadium fare like hot dogs, sodas, sausages, burgers, and popcorn. There is a large team store near the front of the arena where you walk in. There are also some smaller team merchandise stands throughout the arena. You can park at the arena garage, Providence Place, or if you know the city well it is possible to park on the streets if you're willing to walk a good distance. There is much to do around the arena before or after a game. Downtown Providence is one of the best small cities in the US. Don't miss a chance to see...
Read moreWe saw Disney on ice here. Due to mislabeling of the staircases there was mass confusion resulting in many people from 211 that had sat in section 212 (where no one should have been and wasn’t roped off) and people who had tickets for section 210 sitting in 211. Instead of dealing with before the show started or during intermission the event staff chose to deal with this during the show causing mass chaos and many people to miss 20 plus minutes of the first act. They closed customer service so people couldn’t go and complain about how they were treated by event staff. One of the guys actually threatened to kick families out for not moving in the dark unsafely with small children. My husband was outside by concession watching as they freaked out and didn’t know what to do because so many people were in the wrong place. I have called 3 times since we saw the show and been passed to event coordinator and security voicemail to talk about my experience. No phone call has been returned. I would not consider this a place family friendly due to the behavior of the staff. The confusion could have been avoided if the sections had been labeled correctly on the staircases and the problem dealt with before the show started or at intermission. The ushers I personally dealt with the first blamed the situation on Disney and wasn’t overly aggressive. The second was very kind in helping us have other people leave our actual seats so we...
