All I can say is do NOT but any expensive trees here. I spent over $1,500 on some, and had them plant them solely for the warranty. Some did well, and the 24" purple leaf plum looked bad - here is the time line:
Planted on 5/15/17, I noticed that the crew only dug a hole large enough to slide the 24" tree in. (I was taught to dig a hole twice as big as the box).
Called on the 22nd to speak to Jessica (since she was the sales person), and was told that she would not be in until Wednesday. Called to speak to Jessica on the 24th, and she told me that I may be over watering.
Went to the nursery on Thursday 5/25. was told to get a piece of rebar and to stick it in the ground - if it went in easily up to two feet that I should refrain from watering for a few days so that the ground could dry out because the tree could not breathe. She told me to bring in a cutting from the tree co that Chuck could take a look at it.
On the 27th I poured a 5 gallon bucket of water in the well because the tree looked worse.
Went in to the Nursery on 5/30 with a cutting from the tree. Chuck said that I needed to be watering with 2, 5-gallon buckets every other day.
Also, spoke to Miguel who informed me that Plum trees are not waranteed, and that it is posted on the tree signs. I went to take a picture of the sign and showed him that there is no mention of a 'non-warranty', and that had I known that I would have made a different selection. The only reason that I had DHS plant the tree was for the warranty. The sales person who was at the counter's response was, "well, WE know that it isn't waranteed". That might be a point to make to the customer BEFORE they purchase.
They said that they could set up a home visit for $100, which I declined since I was led to believe that the trees that I purchased would be waranteed in the first place.
Went home and did the 10 gallon watering as recommended by Chuck. Tree looks worse on 6/1, will continue with Chuck's watering prescription for a few more days. Continued with the watering schedule until the tree died.
So, now I have a dead tree and no warranty. I will never purchase anything from this place again, and I urge you to...
Read moreNO COVID MASKS OR MASKING POLICY AT THIS GARDEN CENTER!! I phoned Desert Horizon today and asked if a certain type of palm tree was in stock. They said it was so I drove 40 minutes from my home in order to pick it up. When I got there I searched with 3 different staff members trying to find the particular tree in question, making a quick pick up last more than an hour. Ultimately they did not have it in stock. This was all in 107゚ temperatures. Additionally, while the garden center was beautiful and well kept, surprisingly none of the staff wore masks. I asked the owner why no one was wearing masks and if he had a masking policy and his reply was, "Sometimes I wear a mask around my chin." ?!?!? His lack of concern for the health of the community is very disappointing. I will not be returning to this garden center due to the inaccurate stock concerns and most particularly for the lack of concern for no store policy for wearing masks during a pandemic.
Thank you for responding - this is to further address your response:
The man I spoke with was an older man with silver hair who was telling various employees what to do. My assumption was he was the owner because of his ordering the others around, but it was an assumption - my apologies. The palm tree was the Mediterranean Blue Palm Tree. I was told you had one, so drove down, but you had a Mexican Blue Palm, which is not the same thing - they have different growing requirements - one is smaller and one is quite large.
Your staff - approximately 4 people - were all standing very close together by the cash register. There were no designated "6 foot apart" markers on the ground encouraging people to stand back from one another. While your staff that works out in the further reaches might not need a mask, the workers who are working within a few feet of patrons and the patrons themselves should be required to wear masks. Particularly when they are standing on top of one another on a busy day up by the cash register. There were no masks on all the employees milling about together up by the...
Read moreThe customer service at this nursery is very disappointing. Save yourself the brain damage and go somewhere else. I came down to the nursery and hand picked the plants that were supposed be in my yard, because I was looking for healthy thriving plants. While checking out the cashier told us that delivery was 4-5 weeks out. She then told us the date and I put it on my calendar. The date she set was actually a month later. Come delivery day, they bring some rinky dink plants completely different size than the one I personally tagged. Frustrated by the whole process I call and the manager had the worst customer service. She charged me an extra $20 because the cashier charged me for the wrong plant. I personally think that they should have just brought the correct plants. But I paid the $20. The way the manager spoke to me was so ridiculous. She wouldn't let me talk. Talked over me. Raised her voice. She said they have young girls working the front and it's my fault for not looking at the invoice. I'm sorry, what! She then said that I should shop elsewhere in the future. She acted like she was doing me a favor by bringing the correct plant after waiting forever for them. I definitely wouldn't want this lady in front of my customers. She is a hot headed loose cannon that frustrated the situation 100% more than it needed to be. They finally bring the right vine and they looked like a shell of what it was when I picked it. They did not look even close to how they did when I picked them out. Only 1 flower on both vines. When I picked them they had hundreds of flowers. Either they don't care for the plants after you pick them or she switched my tag to the worst looking ones she could find and by the way she acted on the phone I could totally see her doing this. I also feel like my trees I picked look less healthy after it taking 2 months to be delivered. I got some stuff at Home Depot and their vines looked way better than the ones they brought, which is sad...
