The Live series at the Stewart theater has never once disappointed with how interesting the shows are and their incredibly high quality. We have been going off and on for 30 years. I’m a trained musician so sometimes a “not quite there” performer can be a little painful. I’m not critical, supportive of every level, but seriously! NC Live acts blow me away every time. The tickets are affordable and the acts come from all over the world and so many interesting genres. There have been several performances I wasn’t sure I’d like but took a chance (dancing with a robot?!?) and they simply blew me away. Their jazz acts are unparalleled!
Make sure to show up early or stay off they offer a Q&A with the performers because you always learn so much more and the experience becomes deeper.
Parking isn’t difficult at the coliseum deck and is about a five minute walk at most. You can eat a decent meal or get ice cream right there at the student union.

The horns and percussion sounded great for the most part. The masks on the horns was a humorous attempt at PPE(?) Percussionists wearing neck and lip masks. Was really hoping to hear some Afro/Latin/Jazz classics but it was not to be. Instead we got yet another TAP DANCING act from some little girl. REALLY? I'm not paying for any more tickets to see and hear professional musicians when someone brings their teen tap dancing daughter and somehow gets on stage. Read moreWhat an amazing experience. Stewart Theatre is an amazing venue. There is not a bad seat in the house. The acoustics were amazing. Trey McLaughlin and the sounds of Zamar were absolutely everything I imagined they would be and more. The workshop session and the following concert were magnificent. I was so honored to be able to perform a song with them.
