I just moved to the Raleigh area and found Tone Hair Salon. I booked my appointment online and made a mistake typing in my number. They were a little rude when I called to ask why my appointment got canceled via email. They told me they called me multiple times, and I didn't answer. I replied, strange I didn't get a call. "Well, we called you and never answered and left a message." Instead of asking to double-check my number to make sure we have it right, they were snotty and kept telling me I didn't answer. I finally asked can we double check the number? And that was the problem. So she rescheduled the appointment for the next day. Everything was fine with the rebooking at the time. I do not live close to the salon and had picked a time that worked for when I was able to get off work. The day of the appointment, only 45 min before I had to be there, I got a notification my appointment was moved up 15 min. I booked this appointment so I could leave right after work. With the change, I had to scramble to leave work earlier. Mind you, they had my correct number and could have texted to see if this was okay. Maybe they have fine print somewhere they can change the appointment as needed to fit them. I contacted my boss and got off early. One of the reasons I scheduled my haircut with them is online, it said we could have a 15-20 min consultation. Not sure this was the service they ended up rescheduling me for, but my hairstylist only said a couple of words to me. I sat down, and she asked what I wanted. I said a haircut but wanted to discuss dying my hair silver with purple. She didn't even ask for a photo to make sure I explained this right because I wanted to keep the top darker and go out to silver. I was informed that couldn't happen because I was too dark and went on to ask about my haircut. No other options were given about my hair color, or let's figure something out. She finished cutting my hair, and it turned out nice but not worth the anxiety that they didn't want me there. I don't expect people to talk to me during my cuts, but no words were exchanged besides a couple things I told her. I never even received her name. Mind you, the person I booked online with was not the person I got. There might have been a language barrier, and I didn't realize my stylist didn't speak English. I went to the desk to pay, and the lady asked if I wanted to schedule my next cut. I said I wanted to get my hair dyed. She called the stylist back over, and the stylist said I wanted silver and couldn't be done. By this time, I was a little frustrated and asked if I could show a photo of what I wanted. I brought up a picture to show what I had in mind. I felt like a burden, too, even asking if I could show a photo. I just paid $100 + a 25% tip for the hair cut maybe 25% is too low? When I got the picture pulled up, she said she could do something similar but couldn't go that light. Question to hair people, can't you do multiple visits to get lighter? Maybe I'm wrong. No options were really given. Once she said she could do something similar. I said okay can we schedule this. They said yes. This was when I was informed they only could do mornings for hair color...I asked about Saturday or Sunday and was told no. Except you can go on their website and book for noon. Maybe my hair may take too long. Or maybe this stylist doesn't do noon appointments. No other stylist was offered as an option. I was informed I should take a day off. Personally felt like they didn't want me at their salon from the moment I accidentally typed my number incorrectly, or maybe they didn't want...
Ā Ā Ā Read morethis is gonna be a long one so buckle up. i did not have a service done so i cannot speak on their work, but i will speak on the 2 people i spoke too. I made an appointment on a sunday night online for the following thursday, and was charged 35 dollars that night. they called me monday and asked if i could come in for a consultation and strand test for 25 dollars before my appointment, i work full time so this was difficult butttt i made it there that day at 7pm. that day they took the rest of my deposit down for my appointment as well which totals 125 dollars given to the salon, (towards my appointment) 100 being deposit for service, and 25 being for consultation. the consultation went fine, my stylist perla reiterated that it was 25 dollars for the strand test and consult. (my husband was there and also heard that, because i did think maybe i misheard?) i let perla know my budget was 400 and under, i had previously gotten a color correction and had a crazy inspo photo which i knew wasnāt going to be attainable in one appointment. after the test strand was done perla let me know she didnāt reccomend doing anything to my hair because of the condition it was in, which is fine i understood that iād like my hair to not fall off! one thing that rubbed me a bit the wrong way was her recommending i āsave upā for an appointment like this because it would be more than 400 and a color correction. kinda insulting? i know i look 15 years old, but im 24 and make likely around the same amount she does, (with these insane prices) no need to flex that but i am constantly profiled for looking so young lol. anyways that was all fine and i went home and she said i would get my deposit back but sheād keep the 25 for consult, which makes sense. maeve (may? mayve? iām not sure how to spell her name, the receptionist) called me back and told me i got 50 dollars back because my consult and test strand would be 50 dollars, which still didnāt add up because i paid 125, so -50 that would be 75 dollars back. so then she began to tell me that CONSULT was 25 and the test strand was 50. girl i could go buy 4 tubs of bleach and developer and bleach a whole horse for 50 dollars. I am in north carolina and not willing to pay LA or Manhattan prices. (Hence why my ābudgetā was 400, this is north carolina.) So iām like ok thatās crazy and the website said 50 so if itās 50 and you guys misspoke ill eat that. then i checked the website again and it said 75 for consult and test strand like 5 mins after seeing it say 50 so im not sure if i was hallucinating that or if i was gaslit?? Anyways, moral of the story they ended up refunding me 75 dollars total, meaning i paid the 50 for the consult and test strand which is fine but thatās a little insane for popping some bleach on my head and leaving me be for 30 minutes, i went out of my way for the consult i didnāt even want to do lol. Wouldnāt recommend this place, I did feel talked down too and the receptionist on the phone kept saying āi donāt think you understand what iām sayingā when i did indeed fully understand what she was saying. Although they halfway resolved my issue i still feel the need to leave this review, im sorry guys but its a littttttleeeee crazy. also having it as a text salon is really inconvenient. and i think maeve called me heather, and that just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHad gone to Tone for almost a year. Had 1 bad experience with a stylist who did an atrocious cut to the point that I was embarrassed to go out side without a hat on. Spoke to the owner who had me come in. She took a look did some trimming (at no cost) still looked pretty bad but we both knew it was going to take some time to grow out. Second trip in with owner, my hair was growing out and by the 2and cut it was starting to look normal, but still had to grow out more. No charge for that cut eiather. Two more trips in one with a young man who did a decent job. The next with the owner. Touch up on highlight and cut. Bought product and left the salon Satisfied. Then came the Covid19 virus. Well everyone knows what happened next 3 months out and my hair was still looking decent just getting longer. Had a short Bob so now it was to my shoulder. Finally got in 1st week of June with the owner. They took precautions. I dried my own hair wondering if they gave any kind of price break for that but didn't ask. She did a full highlight and cut. As I went up to pay the young lady at the desk asked if I needed any product, I said no because I still had some left. But she talked me into it and I thought. It's good and it will help the owner. When the young lady rang me up she says $642 and change....š³ I almost fell over....I paid it thinking WTH did I pay for. NEVER in my life have I paid that much for a cut and highlight! I didn't leave a tip because I was in Schock! When I got to my car I sat there for a minute because I felt bad not leaving a tip. So I sent the owner a text and apologized for not leaving her a tip. She told me not to worry about it. Now Long story short: I asked why it cost that much she tells me that she had to use extra color on the back of my hair and color was not freeš¤·āāļø Ahh could she have mentioned that to me before she did it? Then she went on to explain that she didn't charge me for my last two cuts (that was from the bad hair cut that I got)! She's the owner- she shouldn't have charged me for trying to fix a bad cut right? Then I look up prices on their site with vargo and it says $250 for cut and full highlight!!! Now I'm upset. I bring this up to the owner and she tells me she charges more for her service then the other stylist in her salon. Remember I've been going there for almost a year. Never NEVER did she say this to me. And then I told her I called another salon in N. Raleigh and they charge $172 and $86 for a cut and full highlight. She told me she doesn't know what other salons charge but that's her price. Not for anything I'm very particular about my hair and have always paid a decent amount to have it cut and colored. But $550 not including the product I bought was steep and the reason she gave me made No sense to me at all because it's still dark in the back underneath part of my hair so I have No clue what she ment by that! Yes I'm upset and I feel like I was taken advantage of. I don't usually write reviews but I'm writing this one to give North Raleigh ladies/ families the head up on this salon's owner because I have just found out recently that this has happend to a few others....
