I signed up for Crunch back in August because I wanted to get in shape for a trip I am going on in April. (When signing up they do not show you any contract but they do summarize it verbally and then make you sign a card reader.) I signed up with a card because at the time I did not have the cash on me but I was guaranteed by the front desk that if I came in to make my next monthly payment in cash that we could take my card off the account So I meet with Joe S and had a very basic physical assessment and discussion about why I had joined the gym he started to push the personal training sessions on me. I was very clear that I didn't want to be spending much money since my upcoming trip was SO expensive. He explained that it was $60 per session for one hour a week or that if I wanted to keep my account all cash like with my member fees I could "just pay the whole $240 for six months of training upfront and be done with it". Which I understood was some deal that had that if you paid it all upfront that was more of a steal, roughly $10 a session if you paid it all upfront. I was very interested at this point and made a point to clarify if I paid $240 in cash to him that it would cover the six months of PT, pay it now and not have to worry about it for 6 months. He said "Yup! $240 for your 6 months of training" We even had the conversation about how to make sure i wouldn't be charged another payment I would need to cancel my PT at the end of the 6 months so they wouldn't charge me again. So that was it! I was all in! Again they made me sign my name without seeing a contract prior to signing and all he did was summarize what I was signing for. He quite literally said "this is just your signature regarding payment" and moved on. So at this point I came in on 8/15 I believe and paid $300 cash. $240 for my 6 months of training sessions, $50 to pay their annual fee in advance so I wouldn't have to worry about it , and my membership fee. I even confirmed with him when my next payment would be due and he said October 14th for my $14 . Here I am this past Sunday on 9/29 (two weeks away from 10/14)and I'm out to eat and my card is declined. I look on my bank statement to see the Crunch fitness is charging my card (that I was told was no longer on file) $240 without my authorization. I had faith that it was just an accident and that someone didn't note properly that I had already paid the fee in cash and accidentally charged me. So I called my trainer JD, who is amazing and has been nothing but helpful and sweet during all of this, and told him what was going on. He then told me it's most likely my training fee going through to which I explained I had already paid and he then informed me that it was in fact $240 monthly. I explained to JD what Joe had clearly misrepresented to me and that had I known that I would have NEVER agreed to pay that amount for one hour a week for six months! I joined the gym to get in shape for a cross country trip to a concert in which the ticket cost me $1k.. IN WHAT WORLD would I pay more to get in shape for this show than I would for the show itself?! I talked to JD and told him it was nothing personal but that if that was the case I would canceling our training, he said no problem I understand. After trying to contact Joe via phone and email a few times I finally got him yesterday hoping to get everything taken care of. He very rudely told me " I would never tell you that and it's basically your word against mine since you signed the contract." I told him I wanted to cancel and be refunded, he responds "I won't refund you because you already paid for them", I've not used those sessions yet so i'd like my refund and to cancel my training please. He told me unless I move 25 miles away from any Crunch Fitness or get so injured that I cannot use the gym for 30 or more days and have proof there is no canceling. Have tried to contact some form of management and have heard nothing back. I enjoyed this gym while I was there but after this experience with JOE I will be (hopefully) canceling...
Read moreI have been going to the SA Crunch for almost a year now, and I have been working with one of their personal trainers (shout out to Haley C.) for this time frame. These are some of my opinions and thoughts... enjoy the long read: After reading other reviews, personal training contracts seem to be mentioned a lot: If you want to start personal training, read the contract carefully and ask questions before you sign up. You are signing a binding contract, so do your due diligence before locking yourself in. Yes, personal training is a service that this gym tries to sell (it is a business after all,) but if you aren't 100% convinced to sign up for it, then don't. Signing up for personal training is optional. I haven't had any problems with my contract because I read through it carefully and knew what to expect before I officially signed up. I have had a great experience working with Haley this year, and I plan on continuing to work with her. More on my personal training experience: I am an amputee, so I am missing part of a limb. This has a significant impact on how I exercise and navigate the gym. Haley has been a huge asset in building my confidence and knowledge around exercise and equipment usage. Her guidance has helped me avoid injury and learn new ways of doing exercises. It has been really fun to go through trial and error phases with her as we both learn new ways for me to do certain exercises, and she has been nothing but patient and kind with me the whole way. I can't thank Haley enough for this. As a female with a disability, I am certainly a minority at this gym and can feel out of my element sometimes, but I have had a really positive experience overall. Shout out to the front desk folks, especially Cam: I am always greeted by name when I come in, and I enjoy my conversations with everyone. If I need help with something, they are always willing to assist. There has been a recent change in personnel from what I have noticed, and it seems to have pushed them in a more positive direction. My only complaint: In the past, the A/C hasn't been running like it should. It's important to keep the gym cool, especially for folks who may have health conditions that make them sensitive to heat. This seems to have been remedied lately, but it's certainly something that needs to be kept in mind. Also, for fellow gym goers, if you see that a piece of equipment needs to be repaired, just let the front desk folks know so they can help get it fixed in a timely manner. Being proactive like this benefits the entire...
Read moreDO NOT SIGN UP FOR PERSONAL TRAINING. Look at the reviews, I am not the only one who was SCAMMED by this gym and by the manager Allison Sweet. I went to Crunch for a Gym Membership and was pushed through to a 1x1 with Allison who committed FRAUD. I made it very clear more than once I was not interested in a long term contract for Personal Training and asked very clearly if I could cancel whenever I was ready to cancel and more than once, Allison assured me that I could cancel at any time and that it wouldn’t be a problem. I was walked up to a pin pad and was verbally told what I was singing for as I was singing for it and none of which referenced a year contract with personal training. They TRICKED me into signing a year long contract and if I wasn’t able to get a doctors note to stop it, it would have costed me THOUSANDS of dollars. I was having medical problems and became pregnant and was only able to cancel with a doctors note which I shouldn’t even have had to do in the first place. It took several months to get in with a specialist who could provide me with a doctors note and because Allison was only willing to pause automatic transactions for a month, I ended up paying several times before it was actually cancelled. Allison refuses to refund the $315 in sessions I am unable to use and quotes that I was emailed a contract with the terms and had 3 days to cancel after signing up if I did not like those terms. I never knew to check my email for the contract because I was never told I was singing a contract and that a copy of it was emailed. My email correspondence with Allison has been so unprofessional and rude. What she did was illegal and I will continue to escalate this matter with the company, BBB, department of business and regulations as well as the state of attorney general. Crunch Fitness responded to this complaint stating that Allison extended my bill freeze which is not true. I asked for an extension and Allison declined. I also posted my horrible experience on Facebook and made sure to conceal the identity of the manager who committed fraud as I did not feel it would be appropriate otherwise. Allison decided to respond in such an unprofessional way. I am perplexed with the management that Crunch Fitness allows to run in their office and the lack of ownership that was taken when obvious fraudulent activity occurs. Makes me think the fraudulent activity isn’t just a manager problem but a...
