During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was deeply missing the experience of in-person, live theatre. I was blessed to find out about Firehouse Theatre, one of the few (if not only) theatre companies in RVA that continued to present in-person performances with proper safety precautions in place, in addition to giving guests the option to enjoy the show from home via live stream. The quality of the performances have not been impacted by the pandemic - Firehouse continues to debut works of art that are thought provoking and culturally relevant while providing opportunities to new directors and playwrights. The intimate setting of Firehouse's black box theatre offers guests the opportunity to escape their current reality and become engulfed in the stories that are beautifully acted out before them. Billy Maupin is a talented performer; I thoroughly enjoyed his versatility on stage. Limited seating and all the extra precautions, made it a very safe experience. I ordered my ticket and drinks in advance, so there was no social contact. My drinks were ready before the show and during intermission ,and the communication e-mail sent prior to the date outlined what to expect upon arrival , only added to an exceptional afternoon. The theater manager and staff are welcoming and friendly. The play was extraordinary in being factual as I know Detroit at that time.
