Chimbo Sandwich Shoppe is bright, clean and sunny, with a kind staff, that remembers your name. But, atmosphere aside, the sandwiches are amazing and just what the neighborhood needs to round it out. These are not your average deli sandwiches, but instead, unique offerings of amazing meats, vegetarian and vegan offerings. I first had the Philadelphian, a hot sandwich with house made roasted pork loin, homemade bread, cheese and amazing sauce. It was fabulous. I split the half size with my husband and there was plenty for both. I then went back and got the fried artichoke. Perfection of light frying with no greasy taste at all and again a yummy sauce and homemade bread. Some may be initially surprised by the pricing, but the half sandwich was plenty for two. I believe even the halves are meant to be shared. For those less adventurous, or wanting a more traditionally priced offering, they have your typical deli meats too to craft your own. Next for me, the Tuscan. Can’t wait!

I consider myself a sandwich connoisseur and Richmond has no shortage of good sandwiches. I have tried almost every sandwich in the city and have an ongoing internal list of the top contenders. I ended up sharing my chicken caesar sandwich, which was not only enough for 2, but also incredible. I gasped when I opened the box and knew from the first bite it was the best sandwich in the city. Every component was well thought out and almost perfectly executed. If I had any critiques it would be that the chicken itself was fried a little too hard and the Parmesan cheese layer was on the thicker side, which led to a chewier sandwich overall. Even with its minor imperfections I would give this sandwich a 10/10.

My husband and I got the Tuscan and the Chicken Caesar and they were GOOD. Massive sandwiches, fresh ingredients and really good bread. The onion jam on the Tuscan was a highlight because it balanced the rich flavors, and the crispy cheese on the Caesar added a delicious, unique texture. Chicken was crispy but juicy tender. 5/5, 10/10 will definitely be back to try their other sandwiches! (Heads up, the Tuscan is pretty messy so get your bib out). They don’t offer cookies to go with the sandwiches but they had banana pudding and that was great too. Chips are a small up-charge.
