After reading the many Yelp reviews about this place, I decided to give it a shot. I ordered delivery and without further delay, where is my review.

The Good:

No Delivery Minimum- most places that offer delivery require customers to spend a certain amount of money to order. Other places may add on a delivery fee and expect a tip. Alamo BBQ does not have a delivery minimum. I ordered my entree which was under $10 with no problem.

Delivery Speed- After placing my order, the food arrived 15-20 minutes later. Considering that I ordered it during a time when the rush hour traffic was out in full force, this was incredible timing by the delivery guy.

Portion Size- As you can see in the picture that I posted, you get a nice helping of food if you order the BBQ Platter. You will not feel hungry after finishing the meal.

The Bad:

Beef Brisket and Pulled Chicken- Both meats were slightly lukewarm and somewhat dry. From the other reviews posted, the pulled pork and fish tacos were the favored meat items at Alamo BBQ.

Jalapeno Mac & Cheese- I'm on the fence about this because while I thought it was tasty, I have tasted better Jalapeno Mac & Cheese from Famous Daves.

Overall- Amid the problems that I had with some of my food items, the other food items were good and the service and prices were great. This is truly a place to order from when you are hungry and need food delivered in a hurry. If I order from them again, I will be sure to try the pulled pork and fish...

I was passing through Richmond, and heard about how good Alamo BBQ is so I had to stop by and eat!

I ordered the Texas philly. It was so delicious! I loved the sauce that they use for the philly sandwich. You can order it with your choice of bbq. I ordered my Texas philly with beef brisket. I wish my sandwich had a little more beef, but I loved it and enjoyed it.

My family got the whole ribs with the 2 sides. We all loved the bbq. It was superb! I loved the jalapeno mac n cheese! It was so creamy with the perfect amount of spice in every bite! We were a little surprised at how small the sides were lol. Each of us had 1 bite of the sides, so if you are a large family I recommend getting the 1/2 pint or pint size orders for the sides. We ordered a pint size jalapeno mac n cheese to take home with us!

We also ordered the cornbread with honey butter...this is addicting! I can eat it all day! We all loved the cornbread with the honey butter combo.

The restuarant is easy to find because of the light pink color it is. Parking was also easy to find, but I am not sure how parking is while there are students at VCU. I went while school was out. There is only outside seating, also there is no bathroom. It appears the bathroom is only for employees.

Overall, my family and I enjoyed Alamo BBQ! Whenever we are in Richmond we will definitely be going back to order the same sandwich,...

Clearly no one cares about making edible food for delivery. The whole dinner was cold and old when it arrived.

The ribs were fatty and looked and tasted like they had been sitting on a warmer for hours. We didn't eat more than a bite because were afraid they weren't safe.

The cornbread was slightly stale and had a tiny dab of what might have been honey butter melted onto it's cold top. It was barely visible, so it's hard to say exactly what it had been. It was pretty clear that the cornbread had been sitting for an hour or so on the same warmer as the ribs.

The brownie had been stuck inside the carton with the ribs and was saturated with BBQ sauce. It was so stale it was crumbly and had a metallic taste. Again, we didn't dare try to eat it.

Basically, we paid $35 for a meal that was inedible.

I called to tell Alamo how bad the food was...thinking they would be as surprised as we were at how bad the food was when we got it. They weren't surprised at all. In fact, they explained that their orders got backed up for several hours and some of them took a really long time to get them delivered.

When I repeated that I was unhappy and that the food was no edible, I got no apology....just "I guess, I can let the manager know". I'm pretty sure the manger does know, and...

I went to the Alamo BBQ today, and decided to try one of their BBQ platters. I ended up ordering the Texas Train Wreck, which comes with cornbread, mac and cheese, beans, with beef brisket. The brisket had a nice flavor to it and was cooked well. The mac and cheese were adequate, and the cornbread was dry but not bad. Unfortunately, it seems that they lack hygiene because when I took a bite of cornbread, I ended up chewing on a piece of metal. It looks like a staple or a tie from their packaging ended up in my food. Luckily, the metal didn't pierce my gums or cause any bleeding. Overall, the highlight of my meal was the brisket, but I have to dock them heavily due to the hazard that ended up in my food. I didn't realize that the "Texas Train Wreck" came with actual pieces of metal in your food!

Richmond's BBQ scene is rejoicing! Alamo BBQ, a beloved institution that's been dearly missed, reopened this week in Church Hill stronger than ever. The owner's warm welcome reminded everyone why this spot was a favorite. We dove into their Texas Trash, a revelation of chopped brisket, jalapeƱo Mac n cheese, bbq beans, and cornbread smothered in a finger-licking good sweet and savory BBQ sauce. It was a delightful change for this usually tangy-sauce fan, bringing back childhood BBQ memories. The perfectly refreshing coleslaw and texas caviar perfectly complemented the richness of the Texas Trash. Alamo BBQ's return is a win for Richmond. Don't miss this chance to experience some incredible BBQ!
