After always walking by this location on my way to Belle Isle we finally stopped and checked this place out; what a great experience! If you enjoy learning about the history of Richmond as well as the civil war and Virginia's contribution, this is a must visit destination. The staff on hand was very knowledgeable and answered any questions we could think of. The building was well maintained and had ice cold water fountains and clean facilities, and offered both stairs and elevators to traverse the 3 story building. Very worth the price of admission. If you're a history connoisseur this is somewhere you want to visit in Richmond. Especially when it was the heart of the civil war and has a lot of history to learn about. The U.S. National Forest Service has a small presence. In addition to remnants of the ironworks, a few artefacts, and a movie on continuous loop, there are some scale models of what the site looked like during its heyday.
