I have been a customer and a consignor at repeat street for several years; however, I have been increasingly frustrated with the consignment process. In the past few months, I brought in a set of 32 pieces (service for 8) of like new blue and white Italian Spode dishes. The lady who generally handles consignments flat out rejected them and said, “Blue and white dishes don’t sell.” A few weeks later, I happened to drop off items for consignment while she wasn’t there, and so I tried the dishes again. The man who generally helps her in the back gladly took the dishes, and they sold immediately for almost $300 total (more than retail price on Amazon). Edited to add: these dishes were sold on my husband’s account for verification purposes. The same lady has also rejected a rare framed Audubon print because, “wildlife doesn’t sell.” Most recently, I brought in a basically brand new blue velvet headboard (see photo) and she told me, “We don’t take headboards without footboards.” I explained that it was basically brand new and that I did not have a price expectation. It was explained to me that Repeat Street has a “different clientele,” and I was then told that I should take it to another consignment store like Palladian or Bloomingdeals where it would sell. I am not sure who Repeat Street thinks their clientele is, but it is absolutely mind boggling to me that Repeat Street would turn away a brand new item with no price expectation and willingly hand over their business to another local consignment store. It’s also interesting to me that I seem to make the most money as a consignor when I drop off items and the lady who generally handles consignment drop offs is not there. However, I’ve grown weary of bringing the same items back repeatedly in hopes of dealing with another employee. I am not one for leaving reviews (in fact, I don’t think I ever have), but I would want to know this information if I was running this business.
Also for whatever it’s worth, the headboard sold for $60 in less than 1 hour when posted to Facebook...
Read moreI must write this review about my favorite consignment store. This store is truly a gem in the Jackson metro area conveniently located off of US51 in Ridgeland. You can find some of the most unique, different and one of a kind pieces in the home goods side. I have consigned out many pieces of furniture and home goods decor, with lots of success. But I love consigning clothing items the best. How do you do this? First of all you must be willing to listen and learn and follow the directions of the curators. Mo, the manager/curator on the clothing side is a wonderful teacher… she can actually teach you how to be a successful clothing seller thru their store. I sold 59 pieces in my first 45 days of consigning. I didn’t do this on my own I listened to Mo tell me about what is a yes and what is a no. They know what will sell and what items sell consistently, they know what is current and what is out, they know their clientele very well. You can’t come in telling them how great a piece of clothing is or how good a pair of dirty running shoes are… speaking of making sales in this store all items must be clean and laundered. If you want to sell shoes they must be clean to the point of looking “like new” … this applies only if you want to make sales. If I can be a success at selling so can you, and this is a great place to learn how to sell your gently used clothing and shoes. Also visit the store on a regular basis and see what is on the floor. Learn brands and styles. This will help you succeed. Don’t get upset about pricing, because this is not a means to get rich, since they set the prices to sell and move the pieces. If you’re looking to make more money on your items then try selling on FB Marketplace or Poshmark so you can set your own prices. But if you don’t want all the fuss of photographing and listing items, then try this method to make some extra cash. You will give your clothing and shoes a new home by recycling them thru sales. Good luck and...
