NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction — Attraction in Riverdale Park

This is actually the overarching building (organization) for the NOAA/NWS national guidance centers the Weather Prediction Center (focuses on large scale weather patterns and precipitation), Climate Prediction Center (long-term weather and short-term climate forecasting), Ocean Prediction Center (maritime weather and some physical oceanography diagnosis and forecasting), National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) offices and various smaller units, and their Environmental Modeling Center (computer simulations of the atmosphere).

The combined location is an improvement over the previous scattered and tattered locations, and the open capacious space makes for a better working environment psychologically as well as enhances networking opportunities and synergy. The 9-16-17 Open House was very informative. Volunteers could not have been more congenial and knowledgeable. Security was impressive and organized. Visitor flow, and tour logistics were a challenge however. Not bad for first open house though. Lesson learned. Supply seating. The auditorium is great for large meetings with 100+ attendees --- comfortable leather seating, fold-out workspaces, and electrical plug ins at every seat are convenient.
