The hike to the top of Mt. Rubidoux is majestic. Every inch of the trail offers breathtaking views. This is an easy hike. Trail is mostly paved. At about the 1/4 mile mark the trail splits. It's 2 miles to the top if you take the easy trail (to the right) and a little over a mile up if you take the harder, steeper, trail (to the left). I took this easy way up and the harder way down. Total hike is approximately 3 miles. At the top there are several shaded seating areas to pause in take in the spectacular view from all sides. I went around 9am on Saturday. I parked at Ryan Bonaminio Park and walked about 1/4 mile to the trailhead. It was a little busy but not too bad. At the top, I was treated to an airshow. Not sure if there was an actual event or just planes practicing, but it was fun to watch the small planes fly overhead, and perform stunts in the distance. At the top there is a large cross that you can make your way up to via some stairs, and sit at the base of it. I saw a bunny on the way up and a couple of interesting bridges and rock structures. Lots of benches along the way to stop and take a break. Not much shade on the trail, but there are some trees along the way to stop and pause under to get a break from the sun. On a hot day, bring water.
This is one of the more beautiful hikes that is easy. Lots of people with dogs (dog friendly) and children. I highly recommend...
Read moreAbsolutely stunning! Can't believe I haven't been before as an IE resident. Once you reach the top there are 2 main areas to explore. The large Serra Cross and a large USA flag both with quite steep steps above the paved path followed by a bit of rock scrambling. After there is the Peace Tower along one side of the paved path.
If you go on the afternoon like I did, definitely make your way up to view the cross from the other side with the sunlight for the best view (and up close too).
From my understanding the most direct way to the top from the trailhead is to take the paved path and stay left along the hill, curving up and around the hill till you see a short wooden bridge. Its kinda an intersection of all 4 main paths, but just cross the bridge and you will end up at the cross further up and to the right.
Even though the main path is paved it is fairly good incline, both when arriving at the trailhead from Ryan Bonaminio Park and as you continue ascending. Do wear comfortable shoes, and even during 70° weather it was dry and warm so dress accordingly and bring water.
I only wish visitors would better clean up after themselves and their pets! There are trash cans and waste bags there should be no excuse to trash such a...
Read moreI had lived in Riverside for 14 years before taking the hike to the top. Should have done it much earlier then that. It was Easter morning, the Easter Sunrise Service was cancelled for in person but still live-streamed. There are 2 trails to take. This is a spectacular place to take a whole lot of pictures! The main trail is easy to get to and the lather is paved all the way up. There are a few benches to rest at and several other rocks to sit on as well. There are trash cans for disposal. The views are amazing, the cross up top is a sight to see and photograph. The World Peace Bridge and Testimonial Peace Tower are also awesome. There are views in all directions. Riverside, Jurupa Valley and more. The main trail is a mild grade with switchbacks to the top. The trail off Mission In. Is more direct, therefore a steeper incline. Will absolutely be back to do again and...
