Right outside of downtown Rockville is a nature preserve in Montgomery County with an amazing little nature center. This is a year-round place as the area has for four seasons and interest of flowers, plants and trees. The outside has hiking trails and gardens, there is bird feeder area for the enjoyment of any level ornithologist and a great little musical and play area for the kids. The building itself houses snakes, turtles and fish. Inside are nature learning books and toys upstairs and downstairs. There are classes for kids 18 months and up and a 2 to 5-year-olds class for a small fee. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and if they don't know the answer they will find it out for you when it comes to nature. Definitely great for preschool & elementary kids and anyone who enjoys learning more about our natural habitat.

Beautiful Nature Center in Rockville, MD. Stopped on by to check out their feeders, and explored the Nature Center and walking trails. Well maintained and great location to visit. Visiting and walking the trails, etc. is free but they do charge a fee for some of the programs they offer. Inside the nature center is an experience. Live animals including turtles and a Screech Owl. Various classrooms and lots of exhibits to educate yourself our your children. Well done. Plenty of parking with main lot and some overflow parking area

While there is quick access from the parking lot to the creek and the trees are very mature and the trails are decent, there are several reasons I rated this area a 3 star. The creek has constant reminders that it is used for sewage overflow. There are also signs advising people not to go in, drink or otherwise use the water in the creek. The main paved trail down to the first bridge is in serious disrepair. Anyone with accessibility issues would have difficulty on this path. The bridge is very nice however and provides a nice view of the water. While the trails are nice to walk along, there is limited signage. We got lost a couple times and creek crossings weren't well defined. Lastly there was a lot of erosion from the recent flash floods, but that is uncontrollable. Would go back but after clearly identifying the trails to go on and having a bit more research done.

Excellent place to bring young children. We hiked the 2.5 mile loop (can be shorter) and let the kids play in the creek. We then came to the center here and found lots of live creatures to look at which thrilled the children. Staff are super friendly and answered all our children's questions. Give them a call to see when they are feeding the snapping turtle. I wish we could have seen that.

A free and fun place for younger children to learn about nature through puzzles and books and seeing the live animals ( turtles, fish, an owl, frogs and two snakes). We stayed for about an hour and it seemed popular for children. Check out the large snapping turtle! And cute crafts to do at home!
