This place is a good place to take your kids and also to take your adult friends. Loyola Park is a couple of blocks from Loyola University Lakeshore Campus. It's about four or five blocks maybe six blocks from the Loyola Red Line stop. It's about 3 blocks from the Morse Avenue Red Line stop. The 147 Outer Drive express bus stops near here. At Greenleaf there is a bus shelter Northbound on the far side of Sheridan and Greenleaf. There's a bus shelter on the far side of Sheridan southbound at Greenleaf. The bus service runs every day of the week up here. Until about maybe 10 or 10:30 at night. And if you're a friend of Bill W there is a Monday night meeting here as well as a Friday night meeting here. There's a swimming pool here. There are a couple of rooms that you can rent for $12 an hour. There is a lot of after-school activities for the kids in the neighborhood. The people are just genuinely nice in here. And you know you can always find what you want over here. There is a outdoor area by the beach with a small dining area. I think that the Heartland Cafe runs the outdoor dining area over here. Then in the summertime they put a piano out side for people to play. That's a neat thing to do. The beach is clean. There's paid parking and free parking. And also you have plenty of Scenic streets around. And also it's convenient if you're going to ride your bicycle over here. And it's a historic Chicago Park District building. The building was probably built in the early 1920s or right after World War one I'm assuming. Those are my observations. But it's one of those old-time classic Chicago Park...
Read moreThis is a good beach over all. It sees a lot of foot traffic, and it's a nice eclectic group of people. It's well maintained as well, and the CPD usually patrols it well (not as often as I would like to see though). I have always felt safe, even when the toothless dudes harass me. I'm giving it 4 stars because it does have restrooms, benches, the beaches are clean and maintained, there is a playground and a snack stand and life guards. Lots of activities, and so forth. The worst part about this beach; however, is the trash. Every weekend in the summer, families bring their kids and entire kitchen with them, trash the beaches, and then leave their garbage all over the place. It's really bad and disgusting. It bothers me that people can take time to plan an event with family and plan out meals and activities, but then cannot be bothered to clean up after themselves. The heaps of trash that are left behind are unbelievable. I have never seen anything like it. It's really disgusting and they should really be ashamed...
Read moreLoyola Park is a beautiful beach. Since it belongs to Chicago, It's a very inclusive place. You can see people from everywhere: White, Blacks, Asians and Latinos.
It's not an exclusive place as other beaches of the north, like Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka, Glencoe. Etc. Sibce you have to pay a lot to get in, or to park your car, on those beaches you will find mostly white (richer) people, which is very sad.
Parking the car at Loyola Park is easy and cheap. There are perimeters in the 3 park in lots. Each 1 Dollar pays for 2 hours of parking. You can pay with credit card or coins.
But if you go after 10:30 on weekends, you will have difficulty on finding available spots to...
