A Hidden Gem for Authentic African Goods!
Unan Imports is a true treasure in our neighborhood! My wife and I recently visited and were immediately impressed by the warm and welcoming customer service. The owner personally assisted us every step of the way, offering insights into the handcrafted productsâmany of which he personally uses. That level of knowledge and passion is rare and refreshing.
We purchased African black soap, and the quality was outstandingârich, authentic, and incredibly affordable at just $5â$10 per tub. Beyond the soap, the store offers a thoughtfully curated selection of clothing, accessories, and other cultural goods, all neatly displayed in a well-organized space.
One of the standout aspects of Unan Imports is the trust and expertise behind every product. When shopping here, youâre not just buying somethingâyouâre learning about its origins and benefits from someone who truly cares. After more than three decades in business, itâs clear that Unan Imports thrives on great customer service, deep product knowledge, and a commitment to quality.
If you appreciate authenticity, affordability, and a personal touch, this is the place to visit....

I was impressed with the range of products from clothing for all genders and ages to jewelry, to hygiene products to accessories and home decor. I've been to Ghana a few times, various Black/African cultural festivals across the US and various stores, and I definitely feel what they have at Unan is unique. Good quality, especially the fabrics (!), and reasonably priced. If I lived in Chicago I'd visit here regularly, but I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. Best part of the experience was talking with Dr. Ntamere! He's very personable and provided great customer service, learned he's been running this business for 36 years! My children, wife, and I all found something but we didn't just buy stuff, we had...
Read moreDr. Ntamere (Al) has remained open over 30 years through theft, and multiple times his window was broken. Not accessible, but he is my friend. Delivets the mdse to me at door and once to my apt. So glad he is still there. Not just imports from Nigeria, but he has items from other parts of the world and people who sew and make jewelry right here in Chicago. He has some of the best dashikis and Africentric shirts, scarfs, carved ebony wood statutes and artifacts, incense, kufis, hats, mango butter, black soap, Jamaican black castor oil, chess boards, mudcloth, skirts, dresses, incense, charcoal. Tell him MAAT sent you. He sells...
