Went to VirtrpolisVR as a Father's Day gift and was blown away! I admit that I was a little skeptical about the quality of VR, how it would compare to a classic escape room, or how whether it would be completely cheesy...I was very wrong! Top marks for a fun, unique experience! I had one voucher and played an Egyptian themed game. As soon as we finished the first game, I asked to play for a second. The facility is new and relatively nondescript in a strip mall. The interior also doesn't have many frills as compared with some more elaborate setups at Escapology. They have a number of open "rooms" for parties to play together, but in this Covid-19 world, all playing areas are naturally socially-distanced. In front of each player area, there is a VR setup. I am not a VR afficiando/expert, but it seems that the equipment used is top-notch. There was no glitchy behavior in game, and it took very little time to get oriented in the virtual world. The games are not a "classic" escape room...they are more like cooperative puzzle video games that are cleverly thought out. The game play is more focused on communication along a linear path of puzzles rather than an escape room where you have to sort through multiple puzzles at once. Also, the games that we played relied on some gameplay mechanics that change the focus from mental puzzle-solving to physical interaction with the VR environment. Honestly, the games with this focus are fun, but it is really the immersive nature of the experience with fantastical environments and concepts like interacting with your team's avatars that make it a must-try. One advantage over an escape room is that the "rooms" can be easily swapped and they will have a large library of options to play. Theoretically, their library will continue to grow as new content is developed. This means that you are not limited to a time slot & room availability & the room you want to play, but rather just when the headsets are available for your party...much more flexible for walkins and having different experiences "on demand" than a traditional escape room. Additionally, I think there is a replayability factor with this concept that simply does not exist for escape rooms. I must add that the owner is extremely nice, customer-focused, and passionate about this concept. She was very excited to talk through the details of the setup and how the games work. She has reason to be proud of this concept and execution.
As for constructive feedback, it seems like they opened at an awkward time and has to try to build a customer base when most of the public is wary of social activities. Fitting the equipment to the players can be a bit cumbersome at first, especially when dealing with social distancing, but is easily forgiven for the experience. It is a family operation that may lack some polish on things like "processes & procedures" that may be preferred by patrons that are looking for a formal, guided experience. The interior, while not the draw, could be enhanced to create more awe upon entry and start the immersive experience in real life. Probably the biggest issue is cost. We had some very generous discounts for Father's Day weekend. The normal pricing is about $37 per person for about an hour long experience (or less if you complete the game early). Compared with other social gaming experiences, this is expensive. Families may want to keep an eye out for specials/discounts, but corporate team building might find this more tolerable at normal rates. Lastly, you may need to be careful if you get motion sick. My wife is prone to motion sickness and managed through two games fine with some sea bands and closing her eyes during some "moving" parts. But someone who really struggles or is unprepared for motion sickness could have some trouble.
Overall, VirtropolisVR is a fantastic experience that I recommend very highly! I know that I will be back and will bring others to get a top-notch...
Read moreI could praise this place and the owners all day. Patty and Rene are the prime example of excellent management and customer service- they really make your experience special and are nothing but warm and accommodating to all your needs.
I stumbled upon this place last fall and find myself coming back again (probably about 4-5 times in less than a year now) and again with my friends, even though it's a bit far from us. I cannot help but gush to everyone about it, as I know anyone I bring there will have the BEST time as it is such a unique experience that cannot be matched by a regular, old escape room. This really is the future!
Patty takes the time to carefully explain the game controls and options, setting you up for success and most importantly- fun. Even though she probably has said the instructions hundreds of times, she is always patient with questions. It is not uncommon for them to give you tips when you need it, and a bit of extra time here and there if you're close to winning.
Their game library is extensive, varied, and unique in that they all have different themes and level of difficulty. They are also always adding new games here and there to keep things fresh and current. The controls/headset can take a bit of time to get used to, but once you're in it...boy, you're in it! The time flies by and I could honestly play for hours if I could.
I fully intent to keep coming and support this local, hard-working business. It is obvious Patty and Rene put their heart and soul into this and are constantly working to keep improving the facilities. Thanks for making this one of my best birthday...
Read moreto experience VR is very unique I recommend everybody try it because it’s amazing technology that is wondrous and everybody should get the opportunity to experience something like that. this place facilitates, an easy way to experience it. It was very fun, and the staff simplified the experience by helping and being there for any of our needs, and Having the private party room was great, because it was very very secluded and an experience For a truly private party, that you can enjoy in a giant room with a big table and an area to put things and even a microwave. with nice restroom facilities, a big garbage bin for easy cleanup and we were able to spread out and be ourselves without being crowded with others. we were able to bring our own food and our own party supplies and decorate as we please- a nice ample space With just enough time to do the game, have a party and hang out for a little while after. The place is clean and comfortable and they sanitized with Lysol. It was very organized, comfy, spacious, private, and enjoyable in many ways. they have a nice lobby in the front with couches. They have sofas all over the place where you can hang out and rest with your guests and relax. A nice thing to have when people from a party are getting picked up. definitely recommend and definitely going...
