As I entered Subham Chettinad Grill, I was greeted by the enticing aroma of spices and herbs that are the hallmark of Chettinad cooking. The decor, simple yet elegant, created a welcoming atmosphere, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience.
The menu at Subham Chettinad Grill is a testament to the rich culinary traditions of the Chettinad region. Every dish is carefully prepared, using authentic ingredients and traditional cooking methods. The star of the show, without a doubt, is their signature Chicken Chettinad. This dish was a revelation – the chicken was cooked to perfection, tender and succulent, and the gravy was a harmonious blend of freshly ground spices, coconut, and curry leaves, offering a perfect balance of heat and flavor.
Another standout dish was the Mutton Pepper Fry. The mutton was incredibly tender, and the pepper-based masala added a delightful kick to the dish, with just the right amount of spice to tantalize the taste buds without overpowering the flavors.
The accompaniments were equally impressive. The Malabar Parotta and Kizhi Parotta were flaky and buttery, a perfect vessel for savoring the rich gravies. .
Subham Chettinad Grill also excels in their vegetarian offerings. The Paneer Chettinad, with its soft paneer cubes in a robust, spicy gravy, was a delight for the senses.
No meal at Subham Chettinad Grill would be complete without trying their desserts. The Payasam, creamy and gently sweetened, was the perfect end to a sumptuous meal.
Service at Subham Chettinad Grill was impeccable. The staff was knowledgeable, eager to share recommendations, and attentive without being intrusive, adding to the overall dining experience.

Read moreOMG this place was so amazing. I expected it to be good, but damn was I blown away by how good this food was. I love lndian flavors and spices and this place had sooooo many option and things to try. I wish I could have tried more. The stand out dish for me was the Butter Chicken. I have never in my life tried one like this. The flavors and spices were so intense and tasty, but yet also in perfect balance. The spice level was perfect for me, it had a kick but also a nice warming feeling. The first spoon left me speechless. It was really that delicious for me. It felt like I was getting a warm hug. The Gobi65 was so good as well. The cauliflower was crispy and crunchy and so well seasoned. That's why I love Indian food because it's so full of so many different flavors and so many different foods. I never thought curry fish would be good but the one we had was amazing. Perfectly seasoned and perfect balance of flavors. The cheese and garlic Naan was hot and fresh. The mushroom appetizer with the spicy sauce was a surprise as well. I don't usually like mushrooms, but the sauce had a great balance of spicy sweetness that just tasted incredible. The little dessert they gave us was yummy as well. I never would have thought noodles and sweet milk would be a good combo, but they proved me wrong because it was a nice treat. I also got to try the Pani Puri after seeing it on TV and social media and I just loved the combo of the water, onions, and sauce in a crunchy shell. GOSH it was so unusual, but so delicious I'm so glad I got to try it. Everyone in the restaurant was so sweet and helpful. They came to check on us but not too much so we never felt rushed. The chef came to ask us how we liked the good and I just loved that. He is a true artist because the food blew me away. This place looked very small and unassuming, but is hiding some of the best food I've ever tasted. If I lived in Austin I would be a regular here. Thank you for the...
Read moreDo not sleep on this place! Excellent south Indian food!
We got the Kari Dosa (a fluffy pancake style dosa with spiced minced meat & egg filling) and Kaal dosa with Vadacurry (spongy dosas with a well spiced Dal Vada curry). We also got the Medu Vadas which were soft, not oily/salty/dense (which is an often occurrence with restaurant vadas) and authentic (black pepper is a must!). Finish with a cup of Filter Kapi and you are set. The filter coffee comes hot, milky and with sugar on the side.
We went in pretty late for lunch, so they were out of Idlis. And their menu is yet to be updated with lunch thalis, which looked great and we will be back soon to try those!
Service is polite, the decor is basic, but it is clean and maintained. The new ownership/management have changed the color of the walls to a bright white shade from the earlier dark green, which makes the entire space seem much more open and airy. The acoustics of this restaurant are not the best though so you may have to talk a little louder and pay attention to hear conversation😅.
Update: After many visits, can confidently say that you will not be disappointed no matter what you order here. We’ve tried Sev Puri from the chaat (great, and their green chutney is fresh and sharp), crispy corn and crispy pepper baby corn (both are delicious, fried of course but not overly oily), Pesarattu dosa, Kheema dosa (paneer as well as goat kheema - the goat one comes with egg in the dosa), mysore masala dosa, butter paneer with garlic naan, biryani - everything tastes excellent and nothing has left us with heartburn/acidity (the food is well spiced but not overly oily/does not have lot of...
