We went to the Paramount recently to see Blue Oyster Cult. I hadn't been there in over 20 years and had forgotten how charming the theater is, especially after the extensive renovations. Vermont is lucky to have restored beauties such as the Paramount. Parking, the bane of any venue, is ridiculously easy, as there is a large commercial lot at the end of the street. Big points there.
Once inside, ushers were friendly and helpful, checking our vaccination cards and helping us find our seats. The theater is well laid out and the acoustics fantastic, as are many of the theaters of this age. Chairs were surprisingly comfortable, roomy, and we had a great view of the stage.
The restrooms were clean and well maintained. A little tricky to get to as you have to walk by the bar (yes, they serve drinks and have snacks for sale), to get to them.
I truly appreciate the wide variety of entertainment the Paramount offers, from local bands to well known performers that span many genres of music. They offer afternoon access to opera performances, musicals, and childrens' programming. Ticket prices are reasonable as well. I would definitely bookmark the Paramount as you never know what's...
Read moreWent to our second show at Paramount this past weekend. We live in Pownal and it's a nice theater within reasonable driving distance. Our first show was pre-pandemic - William Shatner. This show was Lewis Black. We really enjoyed both shows.
The reason for only 4 stars is the spacing of balcony seating. My husband is 6'5" and was literally in pain the whole show with his shins wedged up against the seats in front of him. Had anyone been in those seats, his knees would have been in their shoulders. Seating on the floor has better spacing.
We'll have to remember if floor or chair seating isn't available, we can't go to this theater.
Even for 5' 5" me the seats were not very comfortable.
I was also not comfortable with the presence of the Rutland Police being armed with a gun in the theater. Absolutely not necessary.
Edit 7/2023: went to another show here. All the seats are uncomfortable and small. But, if you want leg room, some seats are on aisles. In the balcony, the outside 3 seats of row N and all of row G have...
Read moreThis is an old but lovely, recently-renovated theater. I've been here 5 times for various concerts and there's not a bad seat in the place. However, the balcony seats are pretty tight leg-room wise. I'm 5'6" and my knees were almost touching the seat in front of me. Best seats (room-wise) are in the orchestra, to the left or right of the main aisles that define the middle orchestra seats. The acoustics are good, parking is ample and somewhat easy and I've always had excellent service from the ushers. There's a decent selection of eateries around the theater also, so we generally get there early and walk a few blocks to a restaurant. If you haven't been yet, try it...
