Hiking a Summit, River Floating & Camping 🏕️
Jei FilipinoJei Filipino
Old Baldy Mountain is part of the Garner Park, one of the thing we didn't know is we need to pay a camping site and get a permit going in even we will not go for camping and we also need to pay the entrance fee. So the camping site fee is 15$ and then 8$ per person for the entrance fee. It's new to us because we are new to the area. So the baldy trail was for sure a steep one, it's a quick trail but steep and a little confusing. We have managed to hike to the peak and see the beautiful view. I advised to give them a call before going and wear close shoes to avoid any injuries. The place was really nice and clean.

This summit was a fun scramble at the end of a 7 mile hike through the lower portion of Garner. And a scramble it is! The trail is very steep with sheer drop offs on the left. Once at the top, it's a great view of the area in all directions. There's plenty room to sit and take in the views as well. The short hike down (just as steep as the way up LOL) is slightly technical. Proper foot placement is important. Sadly, I saw a couple of folks traversing this trail in flip-flops! I recommend boots. To each his own but wow! Anyway, cool short hike for cool views!

Not easy to get up to the summit but the rewards are spectacular views. At the summit is a huge pile of limestone rocks. Climbing to the top of the pile of is dangerous because most of the rocks are loose. Once at the top the views are amazing especially when looking towards the Frio River. Before attempting this climb make sure you are physically fit because the hike up is equivalent to about going up 30 floors. Make sure you are hydrated and have proper hiking shoes. Take breaks as needed and watch your steps on the rock steps because they are slippery. Use plenty of caution going both...
