A review from a prior associate
Phones- we can't always get to them. Workers are single coverage most days and have to deal with customers first. Don't call right at open, they are opening the gates. Trades take a little longer, be patient if the associate has to bounce back and forth between registers to bring the line down by themselves. Don't bring a trade 10-30 minutes before close. They can't take your console and 40+ games in that time frame and clean it. Payroll won't allow them to stay overtime. Closing time is closing time. They want to go home too. If the gates are clearly down, don't pull on the door. It is a Retail Store not a repair shop. No associate is Trained nor paid to Clean or Repair or give advice. Google it or contact your manufacturer or get a warranty next time that can help you. This is a heavy performance based position. Meaning that each and every transaction matters. Metrics are tracked and reviewed so associates can keep their job. This means getting a membership (pro preferred), game and console/controller/headphone protection plans, Pre-orders, and hardware attach. Even if you buy a 99¢ bag and a pack of pokemon cards you'll be helping the cause with your PS5 purchase with no pro or warranty as they require at least 2 things with each console. Metrics also mean we have to walk out to you and have to show the tablet for videos of future games that you are not interested in. If you don't get a membership, please for the love of God, keep your receipt. No account means we can't find your receipt. Members, we see their purchase history, but we still need receipts even with warranty coverage, not just the sticker. 7.Treat the associate decent. You have no idea the amount of stress is on them, even on a slow day. Back to single coverage - if you see an associate uncomfortable or a sign on the door back in X time, they either A have to use the bathroom or B have to go on break. Which means they have to lock up. Be decent and either wait outside or come back another time. Some associates don't play games and that's ok. So don't heckle them with "you're a gamer and don't know about the oculus/Xbox/PS5/Switch" etc. I personally have a Switch and PS5. I can't help you with Xbox, but I can tell you what I've heard. It happens. And that's ok. Preorder is like layaway for games and such. But sometimes the associates are not trained or told to call reservations. As a prior associate, I always called and told the team to share the load with me. My advice now to you is when you preorder/reserve put the info in your phone's calendar just in case you don't get a call. That's said…Shipping delays are a thing. 2 Warehouses closed down, so unfortunately a game might not come out the day of, however and FedEx is getting rid of one day shipment next year to make it worse. Employees don't like it either. The associate cannot change the trade value. They just work there. Clean your console before coming in please. And if a white console is brown from smoke and such, no, they won't take it. No it doesn't matter if it still works, they have to sell it and if they won't sell it to their own mother, they won't buy it. If it has bugs, then most definitely not. You have to be 18 to work here. Pawn Law and Mature games etc. But now they got rid of the sales associate position and only one now is keyholder and that requires supervisor/management experience. Why? Because you'll basically be doing everything a manager does except order for the store and make a schedule. As per another review - the computers up front are the time punch for clocking in and out. And the store is low on hours and the company says be out at X time you HAVE to be out. We would love to help you and stay over as the job used to be fun. But we can't. The next associate will help you.
I had pneumonia for 7 months working this position for one + years. I loved my job though and my store. regardless of work, it was fun and I met so...
Read moreNever had a problem with this store or it's employees until yesterday. Brought in about ten games to sell and ended up with a bleeding toe and broken nail.
When we entered the store there was only one family checking out with a PS5, so we stood next to them waiting for our turn. While the employee was having this man fill out paperwork and taking his fingerprint another family came in and stood on the other side of the man checking out despite us being there first. She eventually asked me if I was in line after standing there trying to peek around the counter to distract the one employee. I said yes and asked her what she was there for and she said she was buying a PS5. Reasonably I thought that since that required paperwork and getting a fingerprint that the employee would help us first but no!
Once the employee was done with the older gentleman he told me that he would be checking her out with the PS5 first because we'd "take longer". So I went to stand off in the store to wait. Once I got tired of standing because it only took me like five minutes to see everything in the store (it's small), I leaned against one of the open spaces of counter in front of one of their three registers. Then all of the sudden my boyfriends telling me to move because the employee is checking out a DIFFERENT family on the counter I was leaning on. I try to get out of the way as quick as I can and immediately hit one of my toes of the corner of their metal rack that's up against the counter, breaking the nail as it starts bleeding. And the family he was checking out are laughing at me finding it funny.
Then after thay he goes back to checking out the lady with the PS5 and eventually calls us over to start scanning our games for sale. That's it. That's all he had to do was scan the back of them, hit a few keys, then take the cash out of the register and hand it to me.
Once I got out to our car I was sitting with my foot out the door trying to clean the blood off, and the family who bought the PS5 (thats right we managed to walk out of the store first despite being last to check out) walks out of the store everybody looking at me and smiling.
Suffice to say this half hour embarrassing experience where I had one family laugh at me for hurting myself in the store, and another think there's something wrong with me because I was a little upset they tried to skip my place in line and the employee let them, could have been avoided. It could have been avoided by having more than one employee on the floor, it could have been avoided if he'd checked out all the customers in the order they came in not off of what's a bigger sale or would take the longest. It could have even been avoided just by having a chair or two people can wait in if other customers are making a lengthy purchase. And I should add the this wasn't the employees fault, but management. If you're going to make one person cover the entire floor and prioritize big purchases over trade ins you should a...
Read moreI never leave reviews. But the one place I used to love coming has turned into a disorganized mess.
I’m not sure when management changed at this location.. but Sam has “helped” me the past few times and has been nothing but passive aggressive and belittling and today was no different. The only difference is that now the employees are just as unprofessional.
I walked in today to get A PS5 title, when I walked in I noticed a long line and I wasn’t too bothered by it. As I was in the line I noticed A worker named “Jonathan” asking people if he could use HIS pro rewards account for their purchases which is NOT allowed. He didn’t ask anyone if they wanted to sign up, he just insisted he used his because it would give them 10% off. He did this because he wanted points for himself which once again isn’t allowed. When he didn’t ask them I noticed him scan his phone to get the points anyways. Not acceptable at all.
As I got closer to the register a girl came in named Amanda and apparently also works at this location as she put her name badge on. I guess Amanda and Jonathan are in a relationship because they constantly kept stopping helping customers to call eachother “baby” and “my love” and constantly Show PDA instead of helping customers. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with working with your significant other. But when you’re stopping what you’re doing just to be all over eachother and not help customers it isn’t acceptable.
As I tried purchasing the item using my pro rewards they told me I couldn’t because I have to reach a certain price to use my pro rewards. Which is ridiculous. I’ve never had that issue. No matter how much I spend the points go on my account.
I’m disappointed by how downhill this GameStop has gotten. Especially the fact that the workers are using their own pro rewards accounts for other purchases.
I will be going to the hunters creek location from now on. This store is nothing but unprofessional teens running it and a manager that...
