I would not recommend Mid-American Appliance Repair Service located in St. Peters, Missouri to anyone. My initial appointment to have my over and digital display board issues diagnosed was 27 Nov 2024, the day before Thanksgiving. The technician came around 6:30pm, did something in the back of my stove, and told me my oven was working fine. The next day was Thanksgiving, I placed my turkey in the oven, left for 2 hours and came back to a raw turkey. The over was not working. This ruined Thanksgiving for my family and I because I had to scramble to find someone’s oven that I could use and haul my food over to their house. I contacted Mid- American Appliance repair again on the 29 Nov 2024, to request the technician come out again to look at the range. I was told that I would be charged an additional $100 for the visit if they determined that nothing was wrong with the stove again, after already paying $94.95 for the initial mis-diagnosis. The same technician Joel, came out on 02 Dec 2024, tested the stove and explained that I needed a new digital panel. I’m not sure how this got missed the first time, but I agreed to move forward to purchase the new panel for $379.31, and was assured it would resolve the over warming issue and fix the digital display panel. Mid-American Repair Service was scheduled to come back out on 09 Dec 2024 to install the new panel. The technician was out sick, so they called to cancel that appointment and scheduled a new appointment for 10 Dec 2024. On 10 Dec 2024, my appointment time was between 3-7pm, I received a call from the technician at 6:45pm stating that he would not make it to my house until around 8pm. This was unacceptable, so I declined that appointment and had to reschedule again for the 13th. On 13 Dec 2024, a new technician came out with the digital panel, installed it and it did not fix the problem. When he installed it, he immediately stated that the panel was still flickering, and how he disliked working behind another technician because he knew it had been mis-diagnosed again. The technician made several calls to Mid-American to try to resolve the issue. I explained that I didn’t plan on spending another dime as I had already spent $475 to repair my stove. After speaking to someone in the office, the technician came back into my house and explained that it would be another $275 dollars to properly fix the issue. At this point, and after three visits to my house, I was convinced that they did not know what they were doing and were just wasting my time using trial and error to figure out the issue on my dime. I explained that I wanted all of my money back, including the service fee since the stove was never properly diagnosed and I never received the service that I paid for. The technician put my stove back together and I never heard one word from Mid-American Appliance Repair Service, no apology, not next steps, nothing. I called my credit card and disputed all charges, only then did I received a call from Mid-American on 18 Dec 2024, only to ask me why I disputed the changes and to say that they would fight the dispute for the service change, for the service that I did not receive because my stove was never properly diagnosed. Mid-American Repair Service has terrible customer service and they treat the customer as if they are doing you a favor. This must be why they get all money in advance so that they can treat you anyway once they have your money. I never received an apology, nor did anyone try to contact me that day to figure out how to make this third visit right. After the visit, they never submitted the chargeback for any of my payments, so I took matter in my own hands and disputed all charges because I don’t pay for services that...

Inconsiderate - Mid America Service, a certified Miele installer, made and appointment to install my Miele dishwasher between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm. At approximately 11:00 AM, the installer hadn't arrived nor had I been contacted by Mid America Service. Concerned, I called the local office to ask if the installer would still be able to install the dishwasher during the scheduled time frame. The answer was "no". I was told that the installer would arrive to install the dishwasher "around 1:30 or 2:00" -- 1.5 to 2 hours after the scheduled appointment. I was also told that a manager would call me back -- no manager called. Thanks to Mid America, my entire morning was wasted and I had to reschedule my afternoon commitments.
Unprofessional - Once the installer finally arrived, he proceeded to behave in an incredibly unprofessional manner. During the install, he bragged about how he was the best installer in town and, as if that wasn’t odd enough, he then proceeded to disparage other installation companies and individuals by name (he went so far as to accuse another installer of sexually harassing a client). Seriously? This from a guy who shows up 1.5 hours late? This from a guy who neglects to install the dishwasher properly (see Incompetent below)?
Incompetent - As the installer was leaving, I noticed that he was taking with him what appeared to be a thick piece of felt insulation that came with the dishwasher. Curious, I asked him what it was. He told me that it was extra packaging material. It seemed odd to me that this particular piece of packaging material would be different from the other packaging material in which the dishwasher arrived (felt vs. styrofoam). So, after he left, I looked at the installation instructions -- the felt piece he took with him was supposed to be installed as sound dampening insulation. I called the installer to ask about this; he never returned my call. So now, I have a really expensive dishwasher that wasn’t installed properly.
To put it mildly, Mid America Service is inconsiderate, unprofessional, and incompetent. I do not...
Read moreUPDATE 5/24/2013 I got a phone call from the owner of the company Friday afternoon. I suspect it is a result of the previous post below. The owner stated that after reviewing my bill he felt like that I was probably overcharged and went on to explain his company's pricing model which according to him does not include an hourly rate charge but is a pricing model based upon what it should take to fix a specified repair. He went on to say they do have minor repair charge of $105.00 and that my repair fell into that category. While I disagreed with his methodology; the end result of our conversation was that while the $105.00 repair charge is their standard price, he would refund me the charge to try and earn my business - and asked that I change my original post - which I am.
While I give the owner high marks for refunding what I felt (and still do feel) was an excessive amount for the repair and that he tried to address my issue; my advice to others is still to be very thorough about pricing before having these guys set foot on your property.
As it was explained to me, the service charge is for them to show up and diagnose your issue. Evidently diagnosing the issue also involves fixing the issue which is at a minimum $105.00 on top of the $79.95 service charge; that way they know if they need to diagnose anything else.
FELT RIPPED OFF - I had to have my refrigerator worked on and Frigidaire provided Mid America Appliance Service as an approved repair service. This company charges a $79.95 service call charge (which they let you know up front); what they don't disclose is that the service call is just to get them to show up and does not include any labor. On top of the service charge there is a minimum 1 hour labor charge (which they don't tell you up front) at $105.00/hour. Needless to say I was charged $184.95 for there repair guy to be here 20 minutes. I would not recommend calling this company unless you plan on spending $184.95 just for...
