Managed to make it into the first three games at Tropicana Field, Home of the Rays!!!
Front of house is always clean, presentable and meets all safety requirements!
Despite the outdated facility everything is up to code. On day two I attempted to exit the building with food and they are on it! According to OSHA standards this is not allowed and staff makes sure that this practice is in place.
At the end of a day thousands of pounds of food is discarded. I would love to see them work with local food banks, homeless shelters and churches to reduce possible waste in the community.
Kitchens need some TLC. There were a few code violations (see photos) and several of the stations could use a good deep cleaning.
Food times were kept properly and time between games was taken into consideration when items were discarded. You can be confident that your hot dogs and burgers are fresh!!!
The back of the house has a pretty structured storage area as well! I know there is talk of moving the rays but can we keep the Team in Saint Pete and just give them an updated stadium and keep it Air Conditioned!
This stadium is used for more than just baseball! You can find the Winter enchantment for the Holidays, an occasional home show, concert and even High School Graduations at this home field stadium!!!
Whatever the team in the facilities department finally decides to do with the 10 acre lots, let’s keep it bringing in tourism and not more high rise condos. You put too many high rises in this city and you won’t be able to be “sunshine...
Read moreYou can find Tropicana field in St Petersburg Florida, which is a long commute distance from Tampa Bay city. I found it was strange that there is no easy trip by public transit from the more populated area of Tampa Bay to the stadium, so you need to drive, get an Uber or cab to get there. But I made the effort and was happy to visit one of the oldest fields (1990) in MLB.
Baseball is both a simple and yet complicated game where play can be influenced by the home stadium’s characteristics. Tropicana field is no different where it has the only active covered roof in the MLB with an unique catwalk used for its support. This catwalk feature has created obstacles where home ground rules have been necessary, thus altering the game. I feel that these unique rules just adds character to different ballparks around the league by introducing field considerations as part of the game plan when playing there.
I liked how easy it was to walk around the entire field while still being able to watch the game. I also liked seeing the petting pool for the cownose rays as they swim around the rays touch tank. The concession stands worked well, but their prices are high. Better to go to Ferg’s sports bar and grill just outside the park for food and a few cold ones before and after the game.
Despite controversy surrounding Tropicana field, I still am thrilled seeing it and the Rays play at home.
If you like my reviews, photos or videos then take me out to the ball game and hit the catwalk to light up the...
Read moreI had a really fun time watching the rays play here and win!
The parking in the stadium was a bit expensive, 20$. The staff guided and directed the cars to any free parking spaces that were available to speed up the process, so I can see why they requested 20$ to park.
The wait wasn’t too long to get into the building, although the store did have somewhat of a lineup to enter.
The seats were clean and the staff were really helpful, guiding us to our seats. There were many different restaurants to choose from to eat, but as expected the food was a little overpriced.
It can get a bit confusing making your way to your seat if you’re a tourist, so I wish it would’ve been a bit more clear that we should park near the gate where our seats are located to avoid having to walk around the whole stadium to get to them.
The shop had some pretty cool items and clothing for Rays fans!
The atmosphere in the stadium was very fun, always hyped up after every at-bat.
It was a bit of a mess when exiting the stadium, as everyone was leaving at the same time and was in a hurry to get out. Probably my least favourite part of the experience.
Tickets must be bought in advance though, through the MLB app.
Overall, we had a really enjoyable time, definitely would recommend to come watch...
