I'll start with my first experience. I bought a copy of Fire Red from this store that didn't work. I explained this and immediately was greeted with a condescending attitude that I might not know the product. We tested the game in a store SP which it worked fine. This just brought more unnecessary attitude from the guy in the same respect. I explained that I brought my DS and will show him the issue. Naturally, he attempts to blame my DS for the issue - Understandable. Let's test it on your DS then I explained. He pops it in and it doesn't work... Tries on different DS... doesn't work. He seems pretty embarrassed now because he's been rude the whole time. I suggested that maybe M&M had let a fake slip past their detection because it seems weird for the cartridge to be selective. This just gave him another excuse to fly into another little fit with me. I'm not looking to get into a fake cartridge debate here; I don't care. I do care I drove SIX hours round trip to deal with this guy and an untested copy.
Despite this incident, I continued to give my business to M&M games rather than the online market. Fast forward 8 months. Yesterday, I returned to this location to hunt for purchases. I lounged around begging for a third, free game to hit me in the face. I finally pick one and prepare to pay. The same guy as before (Francis?) informs me of the total which is the full price of all 3 (26,32,32). I mention the "buy 2 get 1 on ALL retro games (cheapest free)" and he says that it is only for games 20$ and less. While I was in the store, employees told customers this atleast 5 times and never mentioned 20$ or less only. In addition, the signs posted for this deal in the store and on facebook do not reference this. I was really disappointed and had no problems, but I briefly mentioned that I believed it because it wasn't stated or said. This resulted in the same attitude fit as before "I'm not giving you a 25 dollar game free" Woah. I didn't ask for that, your ad states CHEAPEST GAME FREE. I apologized for wasting his time and immediately left. I decided after food I wanted one still so I went back by to get it. As he rang me up, I tried to nicely explain that I believed that because it wasn't stated anywhere. "I'M NOT CHANGING THE POLICY FOR YOU" he snapped. At this point, I lost my cool and had enough of this guy snapping at me when I haven't done anything. If you're going to condescend and snap at people, know that ALL doesn't mean 20$ or less Francis. Also know that your FireRed you're selling doesn't work before you treat your customers like crap. This guy clearly is miserable and has a problem. I read in a review that he threatened a customer with a gun - No surprise. The other staff was great while visiting.
I enjoy collecting retro games and prefer to collect locally even if it means paying higher prices. I enjoy the thrill of finding a cool game in great condition that I don't have. I recently have began vastly expanding my collection in directions I didn't expect that M&M could've helped with in the future. After this, M&M won't be getting CIB money for loose discs from me anymore.
FWIW, Here is a 5star review I wrote about two weeks ago for another location.
"Great selection at this particular M&M compared to others. In addition, the staff (especially Cody) is always upbeat, positive and great to talk to. I am very grateful for the service I always receive at this particular store....
Read moreLet me just start and say this review is NOT for the employees but the owner and his business practices. I've shopped here for years with no issue till I left them with my SPECIAL edition Final Fantasy 3 DS Lite to repair a simple power button. Nothing more or nothing less. It took 2 weeks to get it back when the initial time was only supposed to be 2 days. Then when I finally get it back it is damaged beyond repair. Missing rubber pads, plastic shell protruding apart and the worst of all the TOP of the shell is ** melted. I'm not even kidding the plastic top of the shell is melted beyond repair like he was messing with it when the screen had NOTHING to do with the repair and the DS was STILL not fixed. So I go in there and meet with the owner to discuss the damages on my DS and he looks at it ADMITS it's melted and says "Give it back we can fix it"...... Dude you can't fix melted plastic. We continue to argue with him saying "What do you want from me" and I tell him I will not leave my DS with him again and I want compensation or some kind of gift card for the damages and he laughs and says $25. I tell him it's worth $150 dollars and now he's just mocking me. He then says "What do you want! Tell me! I'm giving you offer, give me back a counter offer!" We settle on 50 in store credit to which he continues to bother me asking "Why are you so mad?!" As he's laughing about it making everyone in the room and his employees uncomfortable. He then goes in the back finally leaving me alone and I left. Bottom line is horrible business practice and cheap, irresponsible business owner. Do not leave him with your items or products and do not buy his. Go to the Clearwater store or Saint Pete super store. Different owners and much better business practices
Edit: The fact this dude took the time to respond in the most condescending way just proves the fact further of the poor business practice and the fact he takes no responsibility for damages of a customers property. Don't take your repairs or money here fam! Check out RetroRat in Largo! They're dope lol (btw you can see from many other reviews I'm not the first person who's had a nightmare of a time getting a repair done from them)
Edit 01/30/22 it's been months and this dude has gone back, deleted his old reply and updated it to something else bitter and upsetti spaghetti because the review is getting upvotes lmao maybe next time just be a good business owner and don't melt...
Read moreThis store used to be awesome. They used to have great games, a huge selection, and really low prices. I'm not sure what happened. A huge thing they advertise is that they are cheaper than GameStop. A few visits ago I saw a game that I also had seen at GameStop, where GameStop was actually the cheaper option. I told the staff member and he told me that apparently there is nothing he could do on the price. I'm most upset though because two weeks ago I went in to pick up some GameCube games. My boyfriend and I ended up getting a new wii controller as well, as we were paying, I asked how much a reflow would be, and how long it usually takes because my playstation 3 needed it. The older gentleman with an accent told me it'd be $50 and only take about 5 days. SWEET! So I dropped it off the next day and was told I'd receive a call when it's ready. The staff member also told me it would be $60, which was not what I was told, but I thought $10 wasn't that huge of a difference. I waited very excitedly for a call. After a week and a half of hearing nothing from the store, I decided to call myself. I told the person on the phone that it had been a while, and still hadn't been called. He then told me that it never takes 5 days, they always say a 7-10 days. That was very annoying to hear since it wasn't what I was told, but asked if it was ready today then, because it's now been a week and a half. I was told that they had just received the glue they needed, and it still wouldn't be ready. He said it would be another one or two days and that id get a call. As of today, it's been about 2 weeks. I still haven't received a call, so I once again called the store. Surprise! My system is STILL not ready. This is absolutely crap. And on top of everything, the GameCube game we bought both didn't work, which we were told to just return when I picked up my system. I'm so upset that the owner has let his store go to such crap. I'll obviously just take my business to somewhere...
