West St. Petersburg Community Library — Attraction in Saint Petersburg

Very nice updated library. I bring my toddler here and the kids' section is located on the first floor, which is convenient for us. The children's area is large and spacious. I appreciated the board book section and early reader's section being clearly labeled. There were many kid-sized tables available if you want to read here. There are puzzles and coloring pages with crayons available to use as well. There are other adult sections located on the first floor so we were respectful to the quiet while others studied. I think it would be difficult for my 2 year old to be calm enough to come to this library, but it's good for ages 3-4 and up. The playground outside is nice, but with limited shade in the afternoon. The facility and grounds is well-kept with lots of trees and ample parking. I was greeted promptly when I proceeded to check-out with my books. I am a ex student at SPC and I am using an alternate account to speak my mind but libraries are supposed to be quite places. This is ruined by students and tutors alike speaking as loud as they want with no enforcement to be quiet. It is practically a requirement to have headphones loud enough to block out the students AND the tutors in the middle of the library (for some reason) and by the time whatever your headphones are playing is loud enough to block out the side chatter, you are no longer able to focus! It is a very nice library and I wish this problem could be resolved with enforcement of how loud one can be but for now I have to give...

Most of the time this is a great library - a modest selection of books and study rooms available to use which I love. Check what programs are going on before you go, as I went during a child program and it was as if they were able to use the whole library like a day care.

I thought libraries were supposed to be quiet - children are allowed to scream and have full run of the place when their programs are going on. Good for parents who want their kids to blow off steam... but wouldn't the playground across the road be more appropriate? Good library, but check beforehand if you want a quiet place to...
