As a frequent visitor to this shop, I must say, I never can understand any negative reviews.
I know that a lot of this world and its people are angry and feel they are not getting ALL of the attention they deserve, but sitting cowardly behind a computer keyboard and venting into the internet is insane.
Get some candy (which provides dopamine - if anything can make you happy, it's candy), and relax. It is GREAT candy, by the way. I have bought it for many of my friends and they all have 5-star smiles on their faces when they take that first delicious bite.
I, personally, actually "in" the shop, witnessed in the last 2 weeks, the owner of this shop have kids come into this store, run and HUG her. And she hugged them right back. Candy was dropped, and immediately replaced. She has a lending library for the children of our community out in the front of her store. She has a niece that she dearly loves and drives hours to see her. I have seen pictures - it is saccharine sweetness defined.
Everyone can have a bad day... everyone! This includes people who constantly vent on Yelp, Google, etc... in probably several places about several shops and stores that didn't treat them like a king or queen (I think they are called Karens, or maybe Gavins if they are male).
But before you spew out toxic negativity into the world, take a deep breath, and think back to a time you had a bad day. Or maybe you are having a bad life - I am truly sorry for that (see - you "can" have compassion for people you do not truly know!).
But again, do not take it out on a person you do not know except for a 5-minute interaction, or hearsay of what someone else might have told you. If you were not there, you do not know what happened.
The candy is amazing, with a wide variety and selection, AND you can also get children's books and toys to go with your candy. This is not the actions of someone who does not like children, or is the witch that a few trolls portray her as.
The rest of the world has showered this store with countless 5-star reviews, which give it an overall rating of 4.5. Take out the angry, bitter selfish people who want the world to cater to them, and you would have a 5-star candy shop that brings happiness to the world, especially children, who LOVE candy!
Walk a mile in anyone's shoes before judge or "rate" them and base your review on the candy (excellent) and if you must judge the person, get to know them more than one 5-minute visit, on a day when you are NOT...
Read moreI came across this cute shop while searching for things to do during a stop over in Ste. Gen. Mo. It did not disappoint. The shop is full of items picked out personally by the owner of 10+ years. Before the trip, I started following the owner on Instagram to get an idea of what to expect and became a fan of her as she shared her daily stories of the ins & outs of the area. Nichole made my trip unforgettable with her welcoming smile and infectious wit. I find it sad that some of the reviews are so damning based on one visit and I say they are missing out on the REAL person behind the candy. Let me try to explain my thought. Most people love candy especially what it brings to the moment. We all hope for the joy it brings, but as Forest Gump stated, life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re gonna get. You don’t toss the whole box out because you came across one you didn’t prefer. Nichole is not everyone’s preferred sweet thing, but she is a favorite of others. I hope you will consider getting to know her for all she has to offer to this lil historic town and not just for what you might dislike of the flavor she expresses. In my humble opinion, she is so much more than a candy shop owner, she’s a wealth of knowledge, talent & experience. If I lived there and she ran for Mayor, she would have my vote! Thank you for reading the whole review. I want to send blessings to the whole town and those who visit. Go explore...
Read moreWent into Sweet Things because my family lived in Ste.Genevieve for 35 years. But moved away and have been gone for 10 years So my kids grew up going into Sweet Things their whole life. So naturally we wanted to bring the grandkids here while we were visiting. The previous owner was Teri and she made it enjoyable to shop there. She would always engage her customers in conversation. Sweet Sweet Lady! The new owner is the polar opposite She was the rudest person I have met in Sainte Genevieve so far. OMG ! We tried talking with her and she literally just stared at us. So Rude. Everyone in the group noticed We kicked ourselves for spending our money in there. The candy is Stale, Marshmallow candy was rock hard, SAD!
Think twice before going in here She is not appreciative of the customers that come in and spend money in the shop.
In reading all of the negative comments about Sweet Things it looks like everyone who goes in and gives negative reviews have dealt with the Owner that runs and operates this business, so it is her they are reviewing as being poor...
