AWEFUL!! Buffet was nasty.Mashed potatoes had a hard dry crust over top. Scraped it back and dared to try them anyway (starving & in big hurry) but wished we hadn't. MP had a burnt plastic smell & taste.Told waitress who had the personality of a doorknob, looked majorly hungover and pissy..and that was from the time we walked thru the door to the time we walked out.EXTREMELY RUDE STAFF.small town/inbred mentality focused on daily locals definitely not on out of towners. Never ONCE offered to do a single thing normal wait staff does. Had to waive her down (we were the ONLY table in the big dining room too)& 3 times I had to get up and go through entire place to find her for refills, napkins, etc..lunch buffet $10 + $3 drink(tea/soda) and it c9nsisted of 2 bins of gummy dumplings, 2 bins of stewed chicken peices (dumpling & chicken were the same dark yellow color like they'd added food coloring. Both were sitting in watered down broth with clumps of grease floating all across the top. 2 bins of chopped up cubes of meat floating in a very dark brown/nearly black watery sauce (more food coloring?) No loddong, it totally looked like canned Alpo.Tasteless green beans & a tiny salad bar with a few limited selections there also.ABSOLTELY HORRENDOUS! The decor is at least 40-45 years old & not in a cute old town, antique building way. But more like a 1980's small town-trying to be fancy way. Lol DON'T WASTE TIME, APPETITE...
Read moreThe house itself is gorgeous, but the atmosphere cheapens the beauty. We went on Sunday for the buffet, which we expected to be delicious due to the amount of people that frequent the buffet after church. We were horribly disappointed. The fried chicken (which is hailed as the best fried chicken in Ste. Gen) was bland and soggy, and as soon as I took a bite, I was actually wishing for KFC. If I'm eating fried chicken from the best fried chicken place in town and wishing for fast food, there is something SERIOUSLY WRONG. The potatoes tasted like instant potatoes that had been sitting in their container for hours - it had a horrible plastic-y aftertaste and was not seasoned at all. We arrived as soon as the buffet was prepared, so I can't even accuse the sad tasting food on it "sitting out". The staff was indifferent and a little rude, and I felt completely unwelcomed. This town has a thing for onion rings, but I have yet to find a restaurant that has GOOD onion rings with flavor. It's like they try to cook Southern, but apparently no one that eats here has taste buds or like anything...
Read moreDecided to check out the oldest brick house this side of the Mississippi. We got there about 5:30 on a Saturday. We were seated quickly and asked what we wanted to drink and that's basically it. Apparently they have a buffet but we didn't know because it was our first time there. We weren't given any menus or told to go get our food from the buffet. The buffet was a salad bar with fried chicken, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy. Again a menu would have been nice in case we didn't want the buffet. Others had menus but we did not. Couldn't find a waitress to even get one. Finally when the waitress comes she hands us a check for a different table and proceeds to tell us that it is our check. It had pork chops and tons of sides on it. We explained we were only given the buffet option and she looked extremely confused. Side note.....there wasn't any background music playing and the place was relatively quiet except from hearing forks and knives scrap plates. One and...
