This is the "old" Rowan County Courthouse and according to the marker posted in front, is "a visible reminder of Salisbury's antebellum prosperity." It was build in 1855 and is one of North Carolina's finest Greek Revival-style buildings, serving as Rowan's third county courthouse until 1914. It survived Stoneman's Raid, one of the few buildings in Salisbury to do so. Today it houses museum offices, rotating exhibits and the Messinger Room.

I am so grateful for the staff and supporters of this beautiful museum and venue. We held a celebration of life in the Messinger room and were blown away with the stateliness of the room and the amenities. I will forever remember the incredible care and consideration given to our party. Thank you for your kindness and accommodations during such a difficult time.

We wanted to go to the Rowan Museum after church; but they are not opened. So we walked around and looked at the beautiful flowers and artwork. There is a beautiful outside area behind the Museum. There are benches to sit and enjoy nature, the beautiful flowers, and a birdhouse. We have visited the Museum several times and enjoy learning from the exhibits.

Staff was incredibly friendly and, knowledgeable about the history of Rowan Co. and about the forefathers as well. Very child friendly and they provide refreshments at the end of the tour. Even if you are not interested in history this is well worth the stop and time spent.

Intriguing regional museum with exhibits and ballroom. Celebrates the local history from Spanish to modern times. Includes artists and writers, gold mining, Great Wagon Road, Cheerwine, and other salient developments. Knowledgeable docent for tour of exhibits.

Nice little museum. Docent was extremely nice and let us in early as didn't realize it didn't open until 1 and we were there before noon. Quaint downtown area and the church next to the museum was beautiful but locked so no seeing inside.
