So, I approached our visit to the Salty Caper with some trepidation, as previous reviews were mixed. But we thoroughly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and drinks.
The pizzas were great. Crust was excellent, toppings too. The beer selection was well-curated and diverse. The service was attentive and friendly and we look forward to coming back as soon as we can.
However, in keeping with the well-worn tradition of including elements in restaurant reviews that actually have nothing to do with the restaurant and the food itself, we have included the following critical observations and petty complaints: the table rocked, liked back and forth... Not, like, "this rocks!" one member of our party wanted to charge their phone, but another member of the party was using the charging cable. The children were confused by the beer menu it was cloudy the proscription against walking on the grass really hampered our patio dining experience when we dropped our styrofoam cup, it broke. they let us order too much food AND, at the end of the night there was a bill.
Despite these quibbles and cavils, the restaurant is great. A real gem and we will...

We absolutely love the Salty Caper. In fact, we drive over from Lexington just to have it. And Lexington has several pizza places.
What we love: The toppings are wonderful, and the suggested specials have some fabulous combinations. Would be fun to have two or three specials with actual capers! Although I do notice that capers can be had as a topping. Capers are underrated and underutilized!
The pizzas come out fairly quickly, even when they are busy. (Brick oven).
The beer list is very good, and we are from Asheville and so appreciate an excellent beer list!
What could be improved: Itās always a little chilly. Even in the summer, it feels a little bit cooler than I would like inside. Often when we go, it is not that crowded, so I thought (with few people to fill the space) that it was just coldā¦but we were there just the other night, and it was packed with a line for tables, and it was still a little chilly in the dining room. Maybe crank up the heat...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat pies and a great changing selection of brews. On busy nights the seating gets filled up and you have to wait until other guests get up. This is a good problem for the business but where it can be uncomfortable for the patron is when newbies don't understand that people standing are waiting for a table and they jump ahead of the line and try to grab the next table. I've actually had to say something to multiple groups as I was waiting in line for a table. They don't always appreciate being told to get in line by another patron. This often leads to customers grabbing a dirty table, as soon as other guests get up, so line jumpers don't get to it first. I would recommend a sign or even have the guys running the food out actually seat people then you could have one of those magical "Wait to be seated" signs. Also, I don't love having to stand in line to get a refill on my beer. I mean I love Salty Caper and I will never stop going at least once a week but these subtle changes would make for a stellar experience...
