My appointment at Prodigy was a while ago, but I have been considering whether to give them another chance prior to writing a review. After thinking about it, I have decided not to go back.
I wanted my hair to be an all-over, single color, warm-toned blonde. I came in for a consultation and showed them pictures of what I had in mind, explained what I wanted, and they booked an appointment for me for dimensional highlights. I told them at that time that I did not want highlights or dimensional color, I wanted one color all overâthey told me then that they book all of their appointments for dimensional, so that the stylist has more time, and that I would get what I wanted on the day.
When I went in for my appointment, the stylist showed me some high-lift colors, and tried to convince me to do one of those instead of bleaching, but the colors she showed me were not even close to the pictures that I had supplied. I declined the high-lift color idea, saying that they were all too dark, and again explained what I wanted. The stylist and I discussed it, and she âconfirmedâ that I wanted highlightsâI said, no, NO highlights!
Fast forward to my hair being bleached. Two artists working on my hair for hours, and then they began taking the foils outâI was confused, because half of my hair was still brown. I asked whether taking the foils out was going to make it hard to bleach the rest of my hairâŚ? Thatâs when the stylist told me that they werenât bleaching my hair all over, they were giving me highlights. At this point, I got upset. I had stated before we started that I specifically did NOT want highlights.
The stylist sat down with me and explained why her idea was better. She explained that it would look more natural, that insisted that it would âlook blonde.â She showed me pictures of what she was going forâbrown with neutral toned highlights!! Nothing like the pictures that I had supplied. I was in disbelief and didnât even know how to respond at that point. She also blamed me for making an appointment for a dimensional, and informed me that a âplatinum cardâ would have required a very different appointment and would have been much more expensive. All these months later, I still find myself wondering why I was not told that at my consultation, or before the bleach went on my hair at the appointment. I felt misled, lied to, and then blamed. She never acknowledged that what she was doing was not what was discussed or agreed upon, and didnât apologize until I was on my way out the door, at which time she just said âIâm sorry itâs darker than you wanted!â
When the bleach was washed out, I was a little more optimistic, because it did look fairly goodâbut then the toner went on, and I went home with brown hair with copper tips and highlights. Not blonde.
I want to mention also that I was charged for a dimensional, meaning that my price was higher than what I was quoted. I paid without complaining because they did spend a lot of time on me as a client, and with two stylists doing the work, it is a lot of labor.
The stylist did offer to do a free revision, but I didnât bother because it seemed impossible to me to go from where my hair was to what I wanted, short of picking out each individual brown hair and bleaching it, which is not something Iâm willing to sit for, or force stylists to do. I would have really preferred to be told âno,â rather than to have been told âyesâ and then given something completely different than what I asked for. Now Iâm just waiting for my hair to grow out, so that I can cut it off and try again.
The salon facilities were really nice, everyone was really friendly, and I was (physically) pretty comfortable while I was there. Despite my negative experience, I was still considering going back, which goes to show that it is a good salon. I wouldnât say to avoid it by any means, but I leave this review in the hopes that the salon staff will think about how to improve their communication and honesty to avoid situations like mine...
Read moreI booked an appointment at Prodigy as a first-time customer, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. In hindsight, I wish I had asked for more details about the stylist before bookingâand ultimately, had chosen a different salon.
I have long, thick hair and requested a trim to take off a few inches while maintaining my long layers, adding face-framing pieces, and removing some weight to make styling easier. I also mentioned that I was prepping for a color appointment the following week.
When I explained my vision, I was surprised by how brief the consultation was. Typically, with a first-time client, this is a more in-depth discussion, so the rushed approach made me uneasy. Once the cut began, I quickly realized it was not going as expected. The stylist asked me twice if my layers looked even, which didnât instill confidence, and the layers that had been cut looked chunky and uneven. At that point, I requested another stylist to consult, and after assessing the situation, I ultimately decided to end the appointment rather than risk further mistakes.
I left feeling frustrated and disheartened that my hair had been ruined. A proper consultation and attention to detail are crucial, especially for new clients. I understand that newer stylists need opportunities to grow, but I wish the stylist had been more upfront about her level of experience and sought guidance from a colleague earlier in the process. Instead, I had to be the one to speak up when things were clearly not going well, which should never be the clientâs responsibility.
To their credit, the salon did offer to rebook me with a more experienced stylist, but at that point, I no longer felt comfortable returning and decided to go elsewhere.
Unfortunately, this experience didnât meet my expectations, and I...
Read moreI was thoroughly disappointed. I have lots of grey hair that I've been growing out for a while now. I knew my hair would be difficult and asked for a consultation. They reassured me by saying one girl would do my cut and the other my color because she was more confident in it. They also quoted me $125 after the consultation. Well I ended up going in and they changed their mind on the original plan we made. They said we need to remove some color from the bottom before dying it so there wasn't such a harsh line. I agreed even though it would cost more and I told them I didn't want to pay more than $150. After 4 hours in the chair I was left with my hair not looking any different. I cried about it because I had specifically asked for them to cover my grays with a solid warm brown color. And it looked like all they did was straighten it. Then they made me pay $200 freaking dollars. So i asked them to fix it and 3 hours later it was decent. My butt hurt so bad after 7 hours in a chair. And the same girl did the fix even though I wasn't comfortable with that but all the other stylists were busy. I will never go back. It's not a good sign when the "color expert" has to go ask for help a million times too. I should have walked out when I had the chance.
Photos: Wavy dark hair was original when I came in. Bright red ends was after doing the color remover from the bottom (Scary). Straight hair with a yellow strip was the final that they were happy with and sent me away with. Obviously didn't cover my grays. last two were after they fixed it. The cut was also so bad. my face frame was uneven. I fixed...
