Hanaya Poke SLC — Restaurant in Salt Lake City

I'm highly allergic to avocado. I love sushi and Japanese food, I even study the language myself. I ordered a bowl where it was clearly stated "I AM ALLERGIC TO AVOCADO, PLEASE LEAVE THE AVOCADO OFF." What did they do? Left it in the middle of the bowl for me discover after eating it halfway through. That level of incompetence concerning something as drastic as an allergy can be, is disappointing to say the absolute least, considering that as I write this I'm waiting to see if I have an allergic reaction, love that for me. The manger refunded me and offered me a free remake of a bowl, which is fine it's what a manger should do. It was what happened after. After my refund several non-masked patrons (~7 give or take) came into the restaurant, when the sign outside the front states "mask required." What did the employees and manager do when several non-maskers enter the establishment in spite of the sign? Nothing. Delta variant is insanely infectious and accounts for the overflowing ICU's we are currently experiencing. Delta has shown to be able to jump vaccinations, and infect easily within feet of being near an infected person inside or outside. I have a family I need to protect, some of which are immunocompromised. The manager came after me in the parking lot after I decided to leave because I felt unsafe and overall just angry, with the bowl she made asking if I still wanted it. I told her there were too many unmasked people in the building when their own sign says they need to be masked, and declined the bowl. I am aware that there are anti-maskers who will resort to violence, if forced to wear a mask (and I pity their fragile egos) They are a legitimate fear in our country especially with such loose gun laws. This poke place is on the corner of a plaza of many great food places next to a busy road. Parking is widely available and it is a big lot meant for all of the stores in that area. Once you walk in, it is a very beautifully open poke place where you order up front and pick all of your type of raw fish, rice, veggies, and toppings! There are also delicious boba / bubble tea options. The drinks are very aesthetically pleasing and delicious. You pay first after picking out all of your options, and pick a table inside or can sit outside.

During Covid-19, Hanaya Poke only allowed take-out, so there was no indoor seating and they have been very good about following precautions. Their staff all followed precautions and wore masks & gloves as well.

The service is quick, sometimes there is a line during busy times, but they try to service everyone as quick as possible. I don't believe there is much service to this place because they only help you in the beginning, but within the quick interaction, they have always been decent. Not necessarily trying to win your favor with their hospitality, but just straight forward.

The food is always delicious and fresh. I have gone to a few other poke places in Utah, but I believe this establishment is the nicest to eat at and best mixture of poke for the price. They serve drinks as well and I have never gotten sick from their fish.

First time being here! I went w my bf and we both were so lost with how it worked so we had trouble ordering and I guess our anxiety kicked in when the lady - who’s native tongue wasn’t English - were rushing us and we just went along w it. She was kind of impatient but I seriously get it so I didn’t mind but I felt like an inconvenience but in the end she told us our meal came w miso soup (I didn’t know) and she pointed out the utensils to my right and in the end my food ended up great ( bc I built my own) but my bf just ordered something already on the menu bc he felt bad to not waste her time , even though we were the only ones in the store :/ but they might have online orders so that’s why we were rushed through the line which is fine, I get it!
