I wanted to post a 5 star review but unfortunately our experience at Union Recreation (specifically the bowling alley) was unacceptable.
We reserved the entire bowling alley for a group retreat, confirmed the reservation by phone two days ahead of the event. When we arrived (a group of about 45) the bowling alley was dark and locked. We confirmed that it opened at 11am (the time of our reservation) and spoke with the Union information desk (who tried their best to find someone to help us).
At 11:25am an employee finally arrived and STARTED the process of opening the bowling alley, turning on lights and getting the cash register ready etc. At 11:30am I asked if she was going to open for us and she said "You shouldn't be mad because usually they don't make reservations this early".
I showed her our reservation, and noted that one third of our time was already gone due to her opening late. She shrugged, and said she could START getting people shoes now. At 11:45am she came back over to let me know that two of the ten lanes were broken but she would try and get them fixed at some point. (She did fix one of them before we left, but the other lane remained broken for the entirety of our stay).
At no point did she offer reimbursement or to extend our reservation time. At no time did she apologize. I understand it likely wasn't entirely her fault -- there should have been more than one employee scheduled for an event for 50 people. However, even without our reservation the bowling alley still opened over 30 minutes after the stated time and her surly attitude and incredibly slow movements made the situation much worse. Our attendees were barely able to play one game before our time was up, and the teams we'd carefully put together had to be rearranged on the spot since their weren't enough working lanes.
This was the kickoff event for our season and it was ruined by our experience at Union Recreation. We were not charged for the 45 minutes we were in the bowling alley, but we can't get that time back -- what should have been a fun celebration was just frustrating and unprofessional.

Read moreGood bowl, not a noisy place and cheapest for a Saturday night. The service wasn't great though. We went on Feb 03 and they cut our game at 11:45 and they close at twelve. We were told clearly at 11:30 that we had thirty more minutes but fifteen minutes later the attendants shut off our game and were packing up and going home. They told us to clean up all the balls. I guess it was convenient for them to "get home early." But that's not how customer service goes.
Our lane had also stopped working in the middle and we waited for them to fix it so we didn't feel it was just that we paid full price for...
Read moreWe enjoy going here as it’s pretty cheap. Compared to a lot of our places. When it comes to bowling, it definitely shows. Arlene had constant issues. The poor cashier girl had to reset it. Probably a good 20 times in only two games. Personally, I would be fine paying just a little more if they got the system working properly. Yes definitely a good place for shooting pool, ping-pong, etc. It’s mainly the bowling lanes that...
