The venue is normally very nice, but tonight, not at all. I took my 5-year old daughter on a daddy-daughter date to the U of U Chamber Choir concert. As we started to enter the venue, the ticket checking host shouted, literally, "YOU CAN'T BRING HER IN HERE! NOBODY UNDER 8 YEARS OLD IS ALLOWED!" I didn't want to make a scene, and further upset my little girl, so didn't challenge the older gentleman, but all the strangers around us came to our defense. I went back to the ticket office to double check and was told the same, so we quietly left. Besides the rude manner in which the rule was communicated, it's a boneheaded rule. Children should be exposed to the arts from the day they are conceived. If children-- or adults-- disrupt an event, then enforce their departure. It's not about 8 months, 8 years, or 8 decades; it's about behavior. Our daughter missed the chance to see her cousin and my niece perform tonight for no good reason and the older gentleman that invoked the rule needs training on how to be a gentleman in the presence of a child who was the target of his hot air. We should have been told where the seats were before we spent the money. Previously when attending events at Libby Gardner hall none of the seats have been reserved so we assumed that this would be the same. What a deception!
