HIGHLY RECOMMEND SUNSET FUNERAL HOME off Austin Hwy, located near Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, for anyone, but especially for the military being buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery located only 3.5 miles away . . . so convenient to go from chapel service, if opted for, to burial ground, and back to Sunset, if a catered reception is desired/selected, as you only get a short limited time at the the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, to talk with friends who attend.
I experienced OUTSTANDING SERVICE and TIMELY RESPONSES provided to me by Sunset Funeral Home counselors John Minijares and Martin Lujan, working with me long distance in Honolulu, to coordinate pre-planning of funerals for my parents. It can be hard on families when the closest of kin, responsible for funeral arrangements, live thousands of miles away, but John & Martin made it easy for me & my siblings by providing me via email, the General Price List and 3 Funeral Package arrangements with all the basic offerings one could want, provided by a Sunset; however, they also let me know additional costs we may incur, if desired, for Clergy Services, Police Funeral Procession Escort, Death Certificates, and Newspaper Obituary options (if you want more than the online obituary they can provide). Although these additional services are not provided by the Funeral Home, Sunset coordinates all these services you may desire, as well as coordinating burial arrangements with National Cemetery, as well as military honors, if determined eligible by St Louis National Cemetery Administration.
I appreciate knowing all costs up front, and being able to pre-plan and coordinate our family’s desires, with no later surprises or hassles, during our time of grief. I also appreciate Sunset FH realizes every family’s budget for a Funeral is very different, and they are able to offer suggestions. We opted not to buy the Outer Burial Chamber (OBC) from Sunset, after discussing the free military provided OBC provided at all the National Military Cemeteries, saving us over $2,000. You also are not obligated to buy their Caskets, and could save some $ in this area, with a little nicer casket; however, I thought the Sunset Caskets were of good quality, and went with the convenience of knowing we already pre-selected and don’t have to make another arrangement at time of need, when we should focus on our travel arrangements & family.
Sunset also offers a 1-800 # to assist with Berevement Travel Arrangements, that can possibly save us some $ during last minute travel; however, my family has not yet needed to use this Service, but good to know & will certainly check it out when time comes.
Realize no one ever knows when they may have to plan/arrange a funeral for a loved one; however, if you have aged parents, you might want to think about selecting the funeral home (this takes time in itself) & make advance planning arrangements with them so you have time to clearly think and make decisions when you are not emotionally distressed and grieving.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND SUNSET FUNERAL HOME (we considered others), for their caring & attentive staff, nice chapel & facilities, quality products, floral services on site, variety of offerings in varied price range, thoroughness in identifying all possible costs up front (nobody likes surprises), offer of complete services (including catering of your choice, if desired), offer of some packages with savings, and great location inside loop 410, as well as near Ft Sam Houston...
Read moreI am SO DISGUSTED with this so called family owned operated SUNSET funeral home. I personally have experienced all types of funerals over the years and NEVER HAVE I EVER...been so disappointed. Our family just went thru the worst type of death case. But Sunset didn't see it that way. The way they prepared my cousin ...I have no words. I hate to say this next comment but the smell of the body the way they prepared her I can't believe they left our family member like that.
Also the day of the burial Was so inappropriate the way they scheduled the time and the way they prepared the service everything was so rushed and done sloppy I can't even imagine this being a legitimate business. The director didn't even let us be with our family member as they were lowering her into the ground as all burials are done This was so rushed we were so upset with the way they pushed us along and then the director tells us she says yani to hurry up because we have another burial scheduled right next to her Like they double booked 2 burials back-to-back we didn't even have time to stand there and mourn her it literally was so rushed within a matter of minutes. I know my aunt spent thousands and thousands of dollars for these services and services and I cannot begin to tell you how thisgusted we were with their service
Please San Antonio hear this posting this is not a rant or rave if you have a loved one and you are thinking of preparing them at sunset memorial park please don'tThe end of life should be a celebration it shouldn't be something that's rushed and made you feel as if it was business as usual.
In the beginning they make you feel warm and invited but once they get your money you will see how their mannerisms change and it gets worse and worse right up to the burial.
To anyone that reads this review please hear me when I say please don't make this mistake like we did our family is a loving family very cordial and very respectful they treated us like trash.
My entire family was so upset everyone was talking about how disrespectful this woman was that runs sunset memorial park she's a white blonde lady so disrespectful well I can't believe someone like her runs a funeral home.
Our family has owned a moving company in San Antonio for 15 years and you'll for 15 years and we take such pride in our work we create such a beautiful work environment that our customers love us so much that they not only use this repeatedly but they recommend us to the world. And that's just in the moving business we treat people with the proper respect these people run a funeral home the last stop in someone's life .
I used to drive by this place and used to think this is such a beautiful place to be but now that I have 1st hand experience I'm so glad to know how horrible this company isI'm gonna tell anyone and everyone that can hear me and listen never to go to this place and I network thousands of people every year we rub shoulders with the district attorney's office federal judges countless police officers all across San Antonio all across Texas I will be telling anyone and everyone about sunset memorial park.
Do not bring your loved ones here do not bring your hard earned money and spend it with this family they do not care about yours.
The director that blonde lady we speak of she's literally a wolf and...
Read moreMy son passed away suddenly due to an accident in June, 2019. I was unable to afford a proper burial and was traumatized at the thought of cremation. So, my family came together and took care of the burial costs. Very thankful to all of my family for their support.
Prior to the service, I had to pick a plot. The person I dealt with, Wayne Bowman, was a salesman for the plots/land. My family came with me to walk the section to select the final resting place for my son. It was extremely hot that day, so naturally I was shopping for a shaded gravesite in a section that appeared to have numerous plots available where I had selected at least 5 options in same section same row. Each time he looked at his file he was confused about locations and availability. So I looked at his spreadsheet and it was not current with highlights, hand written notes and just an unreliable mess. I was willing to wait for him to confirm with the office if what I chose is approved. Wayne was frustrated and confused, and he was on the phone apparently asking someone in office for an updated spreadsheet. I lost trust and I told him he doesn’t know whats going on and if I can’t get what I want then who should I talk to...and I asked for someone else who did know what is available. Then, he saw a chance to sell me on a plot that nobody wanted. I fell for it. It was shaded, on the first row, near the corner. He said these Crepe Myrtles are beautiful in bloom and I asked what color bloom he said lavender. So, it sounded lovely. Then I looked closer at the ground and noticed tractor tire marks. I complained about seeing the grounds maintenance carelessly driving over flat headstones in the section my Father is buried. Also noticed multiple broken in half headstones and said that would be the reason they break. I said if maintenance comes through here then I don’t want this site. He said that when the headstone or monument bench is placed they would no longer drive over his grave. I said, can I put an upright or bench instead of flat to stop maintenance access and disrespecting my sons grave and he told me yes that would for sure stop the maintenance from driving over the grave. Otherwise it was a dealbreaker and back to my first choices. So we agreed on that plot, I found peace and resolve with all of my questions answered finally and decided that I would like to go double deep so that I will be buried there too someday. I asked how much extra is it and he said its cheaper by half the price of single burial if you go double deep I would reduce the cost of plot deducting over a thousand from bill. All of it was perfect and exactly what I wanted. ALL LIES AND NOBODY KNEW UNTIL AFTER THE FUNERAL. I AM SO SICK OF EVERY TIME RELIVING THE EXPECTATIONS I WAS PROMISED ONLY TO KNOW IT WAS NOT THE TRUTH AND I WAS MISLEAD BOLDLY LIED TO AND TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. I can’t even complete this review. Believe me......there is more. another day. i have had enough. it makes me...
